the sooner you realize your cat owns you and not the other way around you will be just fine. Your cat sees you doing something that doesn't involve her, and doesn't recall giving you permission. Naturally she must go stop you from doing whatever it is until she decides it is OK for you to continue......or at least that is what your cat thinks
punishment usually involves about 30 minutes of pet me or ELSE

My cat has a bad habit of getting right in front of the monitor or walking across the keyboard into my lap, especially when I am playing WoW. She sits in the floor until I get to the desk, then here she comes every time. It is just to get your attention, I taught my cat how to play fetch with her bracelets and toy mice, this way she stays out of the way.

At least I am not alone. I keep a stool next to the computer and I pad it with a soft cloth. My cat (Ghita) will sometimes sit there , but mostly not. She will listen when I tap the stool and tell her to get up there, but then within 30 seconds or so she gets right back on the keyboard or in front of the monitor. I'm going to train her to stay there when told to, but I will only use it when I'm truly busy. I don't intend to tell her to sit there all the time. I think she should be able to come to me and get petted on her own terms sometimes.

Hmm..ignore you all the time until you are busy? Sounds like my husband, my kids and my coworkers.
My cat, however, meets me at the door every day, sleeps with me, follows me around the house when I am home, even sits with me when I am on the toilet. Yep, she is right here while I am on the computer. It's called companionship and I would take the cat over the husband any day. She's amusing, loving and always there for affection and play.

my cat does that all the time. he thinks that if i'm sitting down then it's time for him to get attention! it's funny cuz he'll even watch the screen and try to get the curser! usually if i take a few minutes out to really cuddle with him he'll be content just to lay on the edge of the desk or on my lap and stop trying to type for me or chase the mouse.. lol

They think, "How dare you not pay attention to ME!" I'm having the same problem right now!! Is your cat a young one? It just means she wants your attention right now, I try to give a treat when I'm busy or crinkle his toy so he'll play with that instead for a few minutes. Of course cats are like this tee hee! They love us on their time!!

hehe. My cat snuck into my recording studio one night and hid. When I started recording, sitting down, playing guitar and singing, my cat jumped into my lap, started rubbing my hand while I was trying to play, and sang with me. Since then, all I have to do to get the cat to come is sing a few bars.
If you want to get the cat off your lap, keep a noisy toy hidden near the computer, and when she gets up on your lap, get the toy, shake or scrunch it and then throw it. she'll take off and go pay on her own.

Because they want to know that they are the only important thing in your life, so they insist on interupting every thing you do and making themselves the centre of attention
