have u tried going to a swap meet in that area? im not from the bay but usually if a swap meet has tool vendors or fishing gear vendors u could get one there.

as far as a place to go crabbing, i usually went to crissy field right by the golden gate bridge (the south end). they have another spot to go crabbing on the north end of the bridge at a place called fort baker (i think thats what its called). its kind of a hassle to get there all the twisiting roads.

there is also a place in oakland (the last exit before the toll plaza on 580...or first exit getting off the bay bridge going east). it takes u to where all the cargo ships and containers are at. its a picnic like park with the pier about 1/4 of a mile walk away. the crabbing hasnt been too good there the last few times i went (about 4 months ago) but at least if u catch dungeoness crabs there...u can keep it. the other places u gotta throw them back in. or be sneaky enuff to hide them and keep em' lol

I grew up in San Mateo, and I use to fish a lot at the drive-ins at Coyote Point.I remember my dad's friend, he use to crab ,and he got my dad into it . And usually the crabbers make their own traps. So why not ask them.
