Whenever you think it needs a trim is good. I have three children and my best friend is a hair dresser and we have found that the earlier you get them used to going for haircuts the easier your life is. My son was 6 months old when we started sitting him in the chair and acted like we were cutting his hair and we even leaned the clippers against his head with it turned on (the backside of the clippers, of course) so he would know the sounds and feelings. I have to say that my children are pros at this whole hair cut thing compared to the other kids, even small toddlers, when they go. I have seen some kids totally freak out about getting a hair cut. It's not good. I do not know where you live but you should check around. We have a salon called Jelly Beans that will save your babes hair and actually put it on a certificate and everything. The first haircut is a special event. Good Luck!!!

There's really no strict policy on that one :)
We (koreans) have a tradition to cut the baby's hair for a first time right after his first birthday. I guess there's a point there - at that time you just cut off all that supersoft baby hair (that will fall out anyway, but over time) and make the way for a real hair to grow. Some people say that if you cut baby's hair his hair will get to be much better. This is not true - the quality of one's hair is in the genes. So it does not matter if you cut it or not - it still will be as it should be. But getting rid of first hair makes sense, as I see some kids with that tangled hair all over their heads and I'm pretty much sure they did not have their first hair cut.

Many people have cultural traditions that say one year, but I agree that when the baby needs it, do it!! It is not easy especially for boys since the barber/stylist will usually pull out the clippers for around the ear and the kids freak out!! Just what I have seen when I take my child to the kiddie haircut place (best place to go by the way...very kid friendly).

I agree with everyone else. There is not time restriction. The earlier the better so they get used to it. I've been trimming my sons hair since he was about 10 months old because if I didn't he'd have a huge mullet by now. I just learned today though, that Japanese take their daughters to get their heads shaved/buzzed completely at 1yr, which causes their hair to grow back very full. I talked to another hair dresser today that suggested the same thing for my son since his hair is all diff. lengths. I have a buzzer (The Peanut by Wahl) at home for my husband, so I'm going to buzz his head tonight. He's 13 months now. Good luck!!

personal choice in that matter. My first daughter was 4 months old my second was 2 years old my 3rd was 16 months old. I don't think I'd shave a babys head that was still little so if your baby is a boy and you plan to like fade his hair or anything like that I'd wait until his soft spot is closed but again I'm sure that's just a personal choice.

It makes no difference. My nephew was about one when he got his first haircut. It started sticking up all over the back so my sister trimmed it, just so it would look nicer. She wants to let him grow it out some now that he is a little older.

Unless there are cultural or religious reasons why you should way until a certain age, then do so when you feel your child needs one. My daughter didn't get one until she was 2 because she was almost bald...lol. Be sure that you go somewhere that specializes in kid's cuts so they are patient in case your child decides to be less than cooperative....and be sure to keep a lock of hair for the baby book!

Whenever you think they need it. My son was born with his hair half covering his ears, so he had a haircut at less than one week old.

Depends on how long their hair is and how old they are. Everyone told me 1 year but when the lunch counter lady called my son a girl, he got his hair cut at 10 months.

There are no rules for this, only when he needs it.
My son was born w/ a full head of hair, he had his 1st at 6 months old. The barber said he was one of the youngest he had seen.
