The implication for me was that I had to cease being a Christian when, contrary to my previous convictions, I could no longer honestly maintain that the core doctrines of Christianity were true.
It cost me most of my friends and social life, and a fair chunk of my sense of security.
But (perceived) truth comes out ahead, to my mind.
