The church is the root of all evil. Money and power are just fertilizer.

It isn't that money is evil, but it is the love of money that is evil. I don't think that it is the root of all evil. The main thing behind the love of money is behind every sinful act -- it's selfishness. Churches have offerings because they are entities that do need money to exist. Someone has to pay the power bill. Someone has to help with the cost of food that they provide sometimes. Someone has to help with the salaries of church staff. The money is used so the church can keep functioning. It's not a requirement, but it is a good thing to do. It's not money--it's the love of it over the love someone has for God.

money is not so much the root of all evil as much as greed is. greed is what makes people want stuff and money just happens to be the best way of getting it. the donation box in the church is so that the church can have the funding to keep running, but notice its a "donation" box. theyre not charging you any money to get in or to use their stuff and you never actually are required to give anything. so in that case its not the root of all evil, it just keeps things running.

money is not the root of all evil, its the LOVE of money is the root of evil. Money can be used for the good of mankind by feeding the hungary, medical care for the poor, education to people who cant afford it, etc..or it can be evil, If you love money to the point you would do anything to get money like (example) kill for money, steal money, prostitute your body for money,deal drugs etc... that makes it evil.
As far as the donation box at church if it is there to help those in need, or to pay church expences, then its fine with me.

You're initial quote is incorrect, actually incomplete. The context is "The love of money is the root of all evil". The love of money indicates an unending desire and need to aquire more, thus leading one into greed.

While being rich and making a lot of money is not evil, it is the use of the money, and the means of getting it that determines that. A person who makes wise investments and ultimatly makes a lot of money, but doesn't live a high lifestyle is a person who does not love money. A person who makes investment after investment, always doing whatever possible to make more money, demanding to get paid the highest amount possible, is guilty of the love of money. They never have enough.

On the lighter side... women are evil.

women = time x money
time = money
women = money^2
money = sqrt(evil) (money is the root of evil)
women = (sqrt(evil)^2)
women = evil

The LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil...

1 Timothy 6:10

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Matthew 6:24

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon (money)."

The LOVE of money, not money itself is the root of all evil, thus greed, or selfishness that a person lives in luxury while another starves on the street is wrong. It takes money to heat the Church, pay electric, etc., in addition to providing help to Katrina victims, etc.
