I used acupuncture in similar situations and it worked wonder. You need to find an acupuncturist that would come to your house i suppose (which should not be too difficult. Many do come to your house if you ask. Fee is higher of course). Also, applying clove (culinary) on the painful area and keeping it for a while can relieve some pain.

Sorry about the toothache. Try using warm salt water mix in a cup & gargle with it. You cant use too much salt- it will help with the infection if the is one. Also put a warm cloth on out side of cheek/jaw. It might be an absested tooth i think so u should really get it checked out soon. Also use some antibiotics like amoxicillin tablets if u have any i would take 2 at once just to give a good start. Then keep taking them. Or get some from a doctors office if u can. Usually there 500 mg. pills. Make sure u eat when taking amoxicillin it sometimes upsets your tummy. And make sure your not allergic to the antibiotic.Use it only if u have had it prescribed to u/mom before & then take the dose it says on the bottle. You can also use Orajel for the pain. But the salt water works great for a home remedy. - Mel

The best recourse is still to see the dentist.
In the meantime, while waiting for the dental appointment, there are a few ways to minimize or eliminate the pain:
(1) Use an analgesic such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or paracetamol for pain relief. Your stepmom may use these in combination with codeine or dihydro-codeine.
(2) Clove Oil Compress - which is accepted by the American Dental Association. Clove oil contains eugenol, a natural pain killer and antibacterial. Mix 2 to 3 drops of pure clove oil with 1/4 teaspoon olive oil. Saturate a cotton ball with the mixture and place the cotton ball beside the tooth. If the toothache involves a molar at the back of your mouth, your stepmom can bite down gently on the cotton ball to keep it in place. Leave it there for as long as possible (but don't let her go to sleep with it in her mouth.) Pain relief should begin quite rapidly. The ADA warns, however, that this temporary relief measure may cause damage to viable pulp and surrounding soft tissue.
(3) Activated Charcoal Compress. Activated charcoal is available at many drug stores and natural health food stores. Mix two teaspoons of activated charcoal powder with just enough water to make a paste. Apply it to a piece of gauze and place the gauze on the tooth. Bite down.
Hope your stepmom will feel better.

In addition to the above suggestions I've used a warm salt water rinse and also you can buy a kit at the drug store to temporally fill the offending tooth. the kit contains a safe pain killer and some stuff that you pack the tooth with. I think it is made by Orajel or something like that. Ask your druggist. I've used any and at various times combinations of all of these while on vacation or away from home. Get to a dentist as soon as possible. Ice on the OUTSIDE over the sore area helps at times but be sure you use a wash cloth or something between the ice and her skin to keep from freezing her face. I really really relate. Best wishes

The best medicine for a toothache- is plain old Asprin. Tell your StepMom- to take 3 or 4, go to bed, & get to a dentist as soon as possible. NOTHING makes a person feel more miserable- than a toothache.

Oww :( She will need to see a dentist as soon as she can. Tooth pain can go away but can come back. You can try clove oil or oragel for now to try ease the pain. IB Profen or Aleve may also help. If she is in immense pain; you may see if someone has some vocodin or percacets to help until she gets to the doctor. Tooth pain can be hard to get rid of. She needs to see a doctor asap if she thinks she has a jaw infection. She can end up losing more teeth that she thinks. I had a tooth infection in one of my back molars, it spread into my jaw muscle I coudln't open my mouth more than a half and inch for almost two months!! Good luck!!

I brush my teeth allot, like 3 or 4 times a day, and eat allot more fruits and drink lots of water. To keep your mouth healthy, you need to keep your body healthy too. I have sensitive teeth and i used to get very bad toothaches because i only used to brush my teeth twice a day and not eat very much fruit often. But the pain has decreased since I've started taking better care of my mouth and body. Also try Sensondine toothpaste at night before bed. It helped me.
Not all the pain will go away. But it should reduce it a bit. But when you do get a chance , Do see the Dentist .

Step 1: Tie a string around your tooth
Step 2: Tie the string around a doorknob, not you
Step 3: Open the door, and then quickly slam shut
Step 4: Pick up your tooth from the floor AND rinse with antibacterial wash, such as Listerine or Scope, Scope tastes better ;)
Step 5: Don't forget to place tooth under your pillow for the Tooth Fairy :B
Hope that helps...If not, call a dentist or, oh nevermind!
Just kidding...try calling a dentist if you can't actualy go and ask for professional help.

You may not have it in the house now. See a neighbor, if you can borrow some, Anbesol gel. It is used on babies for teething. It works like a charm on a tooth ache it will take the pain out immediately. It is available over the counter at most stores like CVS Meijer Wall Mart etc. It is good to keep on hand, for first aid , in order to be able to get to the dentist without pain. Tooth ache knows to come on during the night, and on weekends when the Dentist is not available .
