The disadvantage would be the ensuing power vacuum in the region and mass violence that would engulf the region. All troops that have died would have died in vain. There is no advantage-just instant gratification.

Advantage: no more of our troops will die over there.
Disadvantages: We leave the country and the area completely unstable opening up a perfect place for Islamic fundamentalist to take over and inspire a new generation of terrorists. Just like when we left Vietnam we will not be able to provide protection for innocents that will probably be killed by the thousands by whichever new regime eventually takes over. We will no longer have a presence in the area and Iran will run amok with their nuclear enrichment program. Last but not least, the terrorist will now be coming over here to fight and die instead of Iraq. Its a complicated equation but one that needs to be thought out long and clear before we withdraw any troops.

The advantage is to let them save face: Read Friends by Day Enemies by Night for more details. This Book gives a detailed outlook on how they think! The disadvantage would be they would see it as weakness as our country is overwhelmed by inner strife and do a walk in, with our borders wide open.

Advantages: All of our Americans would be safe at home, no more worried families and friends etc. The people who hate the war would have nothing to complain about and protest. Those same people would have to find something new to bash our president about (which would take all of 2 seconds to do) Other nations wouldnt look at us like we are this big bullying super power trying to take over the world.

Disadvantages: The Iraqi people we promised to help would be abandoned. Their government would fall, terrorists would take over, and the good people of Iraq would never trust us again (and who could blame them) Those people who have served in Iraq might feel like they were over there for nothing since we just gave up and didnt accomplish all of our goals. We would look weak in the eyes of other countries esp. those with ties to terrorism which is never good. The terrorists themselves would see this as a big victory, and in turn that would probably make them stronger, at least stronger willed.

The bottom line is NO ONE likes war, but we would have bigger issues if we just gave up and waved the white flag now. To everyone who is against the war, you have your opinion and you have right to it, but realize that all of this war bashing hatred is hurting the spirits of the men and women overseas who are doing the best with what they have to fight this war. Please think twice before you protest at a dead soldiers funeral or spew Anti-American remarks. Be proud of your country even if you dont always agree with the government.

About the only thing that would change is that the civil war in Iraq would be over a little sooner.
