No.

Most current higher education indoctrinates the learner in a world system that runs contrary to religious thought.

For one who merely learns, but does not think, there is great pressure to conform to the world's view. This creates an illusion that the non-theists are more educated, when in reality, they are simply more indoctrinated.

There are those who have stopped to think the conclusions through, that start questioning the biases they encounter and who come to there own conclusions. These people will present a fairly even distribution across belief systems - atheist, theist and agnostic alike.

It seems then that the educational system does not encourage people to think - but to mimic.

The same subjects (math, reading, science, history) taught from a theist backdrop will result in what appears to be a high number of educated theists. Again, the system produces mimics rather than thinkers.

Think it through, know why you belief what you believe. The atheist who says there is no God because science tells them so is just as indoctrinated as the christian who claims something is true just because the Bible says so... neither is thinking, both are simply repeating what they've been told.

I conclude, education is indoctrination. The underlying bias of the educational system will influence the student in their selection/following of any given system - theistic, atheistic or agnostic.

Absolutely not.

First, understand the original COLLEGES in the US were Religious. They are known by the names HARVARD, YALE. Do those ring a bell. They were FORMED, run and Taught by the Clergy.

Religious people were the FIRST to educate the MASSES.

It might be fair to state that Atheists and Agnostics, as a whole, are well read.

BUT, the BIG BANG theory that Atheists and Agnostics tote was POSTULATED by a CATHOLIC PRIEST.

The FATHER of GENETICS was a CATHOLIC ABBOTT.

Einstein believed in God.

Atheists and Agnostics are just slick willies who are well read and use that to make the average joe religious fundamentalist look stupid.

Understand, the average American joe is stupid compared to the average English or Average German or average Swedish or average Japaense joe.

Johnny can't read, write or spell.

The ENTIRE state of NY failed the 2005 Math Regents Exam for 12th graders.

That includes ATHEISTS.

Belief systems KNOWS no boundaries.

A dullard is a dullard

Be they Jewish, Protestant, Methoidist, Atheist, Jehovah's Witness or Muslim.

The fact remains that ANY kids trained for 12 years in a CATHOLIC school will give ANY Atheist kid trained for 12 years in a PUBLIC school a race for their money in SPELLING, ENGLISH, HISTORY and MATH.

I will personally finance that contest between a PUBLIC SCHOOL Atheist and a PRIVATE CATHOLIC SCHOOL Theist and you will watch them trounce the public school kid.

The first thing you have to realize is the Nuns that train them often LIVED in Guatamala, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, India, so when they get HISTORY they get HISTORY.

Public school teachers repeat what they college professors tell them.

This is NOT to say Atheists are dumb. It is to say that on a PERCENTAGE BASIS in which you compare the 2 million US Atheists against the 200,000,000 US Religious, you will see that there is essentially NO difference in intellect.

Let's face facts, THEY (Atheists) buy into Richard Dawkins just like THEY (fundamentalists) buy into Pat Robertson (and HE founded a PRESTIGIOUS University called Regent University in Virginia Beach that is a very high level liberal arts college).

No. It takes more than subject to define intelligence.
In any instance a lack of education is not an indication of intelligence.
You would have a difficult time surviving in the frigid North or the wilds of Africa or as further example, an Eskimo would have a difficult time in Africa. That is no reflection on intelligence or education.
It is circumstance and knowledge.

Y&A is not a forum to decide intelligence nor does it imply education.
Mostly what I have observed out here is best guess with a twist, however some seem to grasp communication skills better than others.
That is knowledge.
You still need to apply that gift.

Just my opinoin.

Speaking from a purely analytical point of view, you can not make any valid conclusion due to the fact that posters to ANY message board are not really a valid cross section of the population.

The "theists" (especially evangelicals) are probably more interested in interacting with real, live people (proselytizing.) I get the impression that many of the "theistic posters" here either have an axe to grind or present their arguments here because they are unable to present a point of view that can be defended in a live debate.

Some "theists" post here because it is such a good place to "defend the faith." Many who fall into that category have a "don't confuse the issue by feeding me facts" type of mindset.

Y!A R&S is not a proper representative random sample, therefore, as a scientist I'd be remiss in drawing any conclusions on it.

I will say only this: I hold a BA in Psychology and a BS in Computer Science with enough credits that I could apply for either a minor in (or take 5 more hours) or a major in Bible Studies.

Make of that what you will. Titles don't impress me, nor do IQ's.

Integrity of logic and the ability to process hypotheticals properly impress me.

nope! I don't think so.

Did you ask for a reason why I said so? Anyway.

It might just be a mere coincidence that you saw atheists and/or agnostics with good answers. however, if you blend in with theists, you can see that they have different levels. There are bumb one(sorry for such term), average ones and smart ones. It happened that I experienced being with all of them and also be with agnostics(not atheists). They seem to be equally mached in their friendly debates and competitions.

If we look at philosophers, we can see that agnostics, because they need logical explanations, are critical thinkers. (I really admire Bertrand Russell for his Conquest of happiness only to find out that he is an agnostic.) however, though theists relly on faith(which can be considered a handicap), they were still able to provide logical reasons. ie: Aquinas

I think that atheists and agnostic tend to rely more on their intellect for different reasons: Agnostics because they are seeking and questioning, and Atheists because they have placed all of their faith in logic and science.

I feel that Atheists however have faith. And that is the faith that there is absolutely no God, afterlife or soul beyond what we can physically see and discover in the material world. THAT takes a lot of faith.

Both Atheists as well as Theists believe strongly in their specific dogmas, in my opinion, are far more limited in their capacity for understanding than Agnostic people.

Agnostic people who, by definition, admit they don't know are actively seeking, questioning and learning about spirituality and the world. To me that's smarter.

i'm an atheist now. i think either way theist or atheists are both educated if they choose it. i do agree that atheists are more open minded and have more common sense. i went to a christian school myself so i myself have missed out on a lot of education, but as far as the way to treat ppl and getting a good read on them, i excel on it compared to other ppl that i grew up with (christians). i don't understand y they can't use birth control after they get married or start having sex

Your question is quite clear. The evidence is persuasive that atheist/agnostics are more intelligent (and presumably better educated as a result) as a group than religious types. There are, of course, individual exceptions.

Hmm, what's a thiest? Anyway, if you are meaning someone opposite of someone who doesn't believe a certain religion or is unsure if a certain religion is true... Our senate & house & presidents have all been diverse & come from all three of those groups. They were educated to different degrees. I don't see any point here, with all due respect. :)
