Neither one really offends me. Oops, wardrobe malfunction. Kind of amusing, but not the end of the world. Oh look, a child is being fed in the most natural way possible. I think of that as an excellent thing. My friend has been breastfeeding her baby for months now. Doesn't bother me one iota. I hope she keeps it up as long as possible.

To stay truthful to the question (not that I done that for many others), I think the reason why the nipple slip might be worse is because of how unexpected it was on TV when millions of viewers were watching. I think this just shows how messed up America is when it comes to this stuff. Of course a guy's nipple would be no problem. I'm sure had someone got shot during the halftime there would have been less of an uproar then the nipple slip. America is so caught up on "nudity = sex" (or female nipple in this case) and "the human body will scar children for life" that it made this event a huge deal.
On the other hand, I don't see why public breast feeding should be a problem. As for covering up, why should a woman have to cover up? Why should a baby have to be covered by a blanket or go into a dirty restroom just become people generally tend to freak out and act like it's the end of the world to see a woman's breast? People getting offended over a mother caring and feeding her baby? Personally I think the baby's needs are more important then a person's desire to not be offended.
*gets on soup box* Seriously people (for those it applies to), why should a baby have to not get the best possible support because you're so hung up on a freaking nipple? Too bad then! I guess the blanket can be used for something, to cover you! Then the mother and baby can be at peace in getting the care and milk he/she needs. *soup box breaks*

Ok you are trying to compare apples and oranges here. The Janet Jackson performance was a sex-charged song to entertain at a major sporting event. A woman breastfeeding in the mall is perfoming a survival function - feeding her baby.
Personally, I think Americans are way too uptight about nudity on any level, but that is the culture we, as a society have developed over the years.
If you are calling some people hypocrites to oppose one and not the other, I agree. Let's let all nipples frolic freely in public places at their owner's discretion. (Be careful what you wish for.)

It is all in bad taste, janet jackson nipple slip was on national tv and children could have been watching.
Breast feeding is another matter entirely, to nurish your child is one thing, that is what the breast was made for, not to flash on national tv.
But for the sake of modesty (haha), if I were in the mall or on tv and my child started to cry and needed to be fed I would simply place a recieving blanket over my sholder and the baby and my breast would be out of the public eye and there for not embarrising to anyone present

Why the hubub about the nip slip from the same parents who want to be able to whip out their nipples in public?
"Same" parents? You've really researched this, haven't you? Doubtful.

Babies got to eat man. It's natural, dont be a prude.
America was based on a puritan society and the fact will be America's demise. That's why it is so sensetive to a nipple slip. The rest of the world has uncensored tv an there's no nipplegate. They're laughing at us man.

JJ nipple slip!
I breast fed my daughter anywhere and anytime she was hungry, tired or just needed to nurse for comfort. I never exposed my breasts to the public. I have found that the older people except it more than the younger people. I had old men and women come up to me when I was nursing, and tell me I was doing the best for my baby, and how proud of me they were for being a young mother, (23) willing to sacrafice my breasts for the health and happiness of my child. And at the same time, I had dirty looks from young people.... so go figure. BREAST FEED IF YOU CAN!
