A real easy recipie for sloppy joe is:
2lbs. groung beef, turkey, or any meat you desire to use
1 large onion fine chop
4 ribs of celery fine chop
2 green peppers fine chop
1 large bottle ketchup
4 tbsp. dry mustard to start you may need more.
2/3 c. brown sugar
1 Tbsp garlic powder
Procedure:
Chop the onion, celery, and green pepper and add to a hot skillet with the ground meat. Brown the meat until brwoned all the way through, and veggies are slightly crisp. Drain off any excess grease. *If tou use grond turkey you will need to add cooking oil because turkey is very lean and will burn without any oil. Add ketchup to desired cosistancy, and then add the mustard, brown sugar and garlic powder. Let simmer for 1 hour until all flavors have blended.
Note at this point you want to taste the mixture and add more ketchup or mustard or brown sugar to taste, only if you think it needs more of anything. If it tastes good to you leave it and enjoy. If the recipie needs any alterations be sure to add small amounts at a time. Good luck and enjoy.

I've tried different recipes, but I've found that the Manwich stuff turns out just as good and less of a hassle.
My recommendation is to use the Manwhich stuff in a can and add chopped onions, a little minced garlic and bell pepper to the browning ground beef.

hamburger
brown sugar
ketchup
mustard
1 chopped onion
it's quick and you mix everything to taste, so there's no real measuring involved but you don't want to make it runny. If it does get too runny, drain off the extra. My kids love it!

You probably wont try this but it is seriously good. Saute some onions with ground beef. Once beef browned, drain grease and add ketchup, stir and cook for a few minutes. Soo good.

If you are looking for something besides Manwich, but just as good and easy...try a jar of chili sauce. It has a little different flavor, but it's good!

Personally, I LOVE manwich (better than homemade in my opinion), BUT, my friend makes awesome sloppy joes by mixing ketchup in the meat, then burning the ketchup slightly in the pan. Weird, but good!

I have to go with Manwich also -- my family just loves it. When I am out of it, I usually just brown the meat with onion & garlic and add my favorite BBQ sauce. We use Masterpiece!
