A bungalow (Gujarati: બંગલો baṅglo, Hindi: बंगला baṅglā) is a type of single storey house. The word derives from the Gujarati word baṅglo, which in turn came from Hindi baṅglā. It means "Bengali", used elliptically for a "house in the Bengal style".[1] Such houses were traditionally small, only one storey, thatched and had a wide veranda.[2] Bungalows today are a type of house that is usually single story or one and a half stories, and can be quite large.....from wikipedia.org

bungalow is also a word strongly associated with arts and crafts or craftsman architecture.

"These popular architectural styles find their roots in the Arts and Crafts movement. From this rich design aesthetic, the Bungalow came to be, representing a more modest version of the Arts and Crafts home. Originally built in planned neighborhoods throughout America during the early 1900s, these small but quaint homes - Bungalows - represented some of the most forward thinking American architecture."
"...They incorporated beautiful details as well as economical built-in such as chests, bookcases and window seats."
"exteriors featured simple post-and-beam construction with wood shingle- or stone-clad walls. Well crafted interiors incorporated rustic elements such as wood, tile, art glass, and metalwork."
