No but it would make some sick people happy. Why should our nation make a snuff film. This would be taking reality television to the next and last level. As you know the Christians and lions sold out every night.

Why give these people more publicity? We are not a barbaric society and shouldn't become like those who hold public executions. If these people committed crimes that serious and are paying the ultimate price for that, it is our obligation to give them some level of dignity in death. That what being civilized is all about. It's not about how you treat those with the most prestige but how you treat those with the least. Television would erase all dignity and would undoubtly try to make a buck off it. Could you imagine hearing an announcer saying "This execution brought to you by Budweiser". It would become a spectacle. I don't think the victim's families would feel justice had been served if someone was making a buck off of it. Just my opinion.

I am afraid that televising executions would make people de-sensitized to them. It would just start looking like all the violence in the movies today, and it would not be a deterrent in my opinion.

Good question.

There is already enough violence on TV.

I doubt anyone would watch executions, but reality television is popular.

An execution is a good enough deterrent, whether it is on TV or not.

So would televised executions further deterr? Probably not.

In all honesty who can say. I believe it would be a popular show world wide but Most people on death row.. now I said most, are there because they did something stupid like murdered someone so I don't believe showing it on TV would make that much of a difference because they knew what would happen if they got caught anyways..

No! It might desensitize the general public to the idea of murder and would definitely offend anti death penalty supporters.

Any organizations already fighting for less violence on TV would never let that happen. I really don't think anyone would support that.

I'm sorry I didn't really answer what you asked. But I just don't think it would ever happen.

Did it work in the middle ages? Whole families would go to watch the hangings.

No because the ones committing the crimes wouldn't watch anyway, but the ACLU would.

My personal opinion is that I don't think people who commit capital offenses give much thought to the consequences of their actions. If they did, they wouldn't be murdering someone.
