I used a head of iceberg lettuce, cut to make the bottom flat and to fit the container. I covered the finished product with leaves of kale covering the iceberg to make it look pretty.

I also once saw a fruit bouquet placed in a fresh pineapple with the bottom sliced to make it flat, that also looked very nice. Good luck, it's fun!

Heavy floral foam (taped to the container so it won't move), then add a piece of heavy wire mesh -- that will keep the skewers from falling over. Make sure the foam is tall enough to hold the weight of the fruit -- about 4" high, depending on your container.

Use florist's foam or styrofoam wrapped in plastic wrap. The plastic wrap will give it a little more stability and will keep that green foam from getting on the fruit.

Those green foam things florists use (you can get them from the craft shop. They sell white styrafoam as well.

Or if you want to be really creative you can stick them in a watermelon and decorate that.

Use a 'styrofoam' brick but 'hold it down' with some pretty 'rocks' that are painted in 'fruity colors' (if you want to hide them) or in a clear 'laquer' (if you want them to 'contrast' your fruit).
