Why did they chose to remain neutral?

The United States remained Neutral in World War II for a long time because they did not want have to commit themselves more than necessary. It wasn't until Pearl Harbor that the United States actually ditched their neutral. However, It is important to note that their neutrality stance wasn't as neutral as many think. The United States had a policy that basically stated they would allow whoever controlled the seas to "borrow" military aid and such. Because they knew Britain controlled the seas the British would be able to "borrow" US resources to fight the war with Germany... No body really wants a used tank back so it really wasn't borrowing as much as it was giving Britian arms to fight their war. I think when America realized that Britain and France were the only powers between them and Germany they had to react soon anyways because all the rest of the countries were falling

The Cold Hard Truth: The United states' stance was neutral in the second world war (or WW2) until the japaneese bombed peral habor. They didn't feel it was nessessary for them to get involved in the war. The american did infact know peral harbour was going to be attacked by the japaneese, they just didn't know when the attack would take place. (yes they did know of this, look it up if you don't believe me) After the attack, the american declared war on japan and it's allies (Germany & Italy).

History is alot more complicated than what you are first taught. Just remember there are two sides of the story. Investiagte both sides and YOU make the decision/judgement. I am a Canadian that believe in not only listening to one side, but I listen to both parties and then make a judgement.

They didnt want a repeat of WWI, and didnt want to have to save Central Europe again. Britain is the only country over there that actually put up a good fight and haulted the invasion.

They didnt want to sacrifice American lifes to save the Frenchies and Communist but when the Japaneese attacked, they proved that the US could be at risk. So the US came in, took out the Japaneese Empire in the Pacific, aligned w/ Britain and the Soviets and took back Europe.

What I never got was if Britain, the Soviets, and America basically controlled the globe; why did they give it back?

The US was never truly "neutral" even before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The US supplied it´s European allies with weapons on convoys since the beginning of the war.

It was neutral until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and then Congress declared war on both Japan and Germany.

Roosevelt wanted in from day one he knew Hitler was a thug and wanted him gone in fact it was him that called Churchill to see if they needed help. but he knew the American public would not support a war they thought Hitler was Europe's problem and wanted no part in in plus there is and was a big German population in America at the time and nobody wanted a war with him so he did as much as he could without declaring war he sent aid that include ships tanks and raw materials to Russia and Britain

There was a strong isolationist movement. Conservatives in America generally did not think the US should be involved in European or Asian affairs.

I knew a proud US Marine veteran of the Pacific Theater who until his dying day blamed FDR for getting us involved in WWII.

Many major industrialist like the BUSH family were pro German and making plenty selling to both sides. But while "neutral the US occupied Iceland, Greenland and fired on German ships on the high seas. We embargoed oil to Japan which many people believe was what forcewd them to attack us.
