actually they are not. hexagon geometry model approximates a circular radiation pattern which could occur for omnidirectional base station antenna's used in free space propagation. hexagons are used to model the coverage areas and practical considerations will not allow base stations to be placed as they appear in the hexagonal layout.

I did work for NASA and was in a 40 ft. dish. The transmitter of 10,000 watts was turned on and all it did was black both eyes. The power from a cell phone will affect nothing. U get more radiation from the local TV tower.
