How can a weak economy influence the number of people kept in prisions and jails?

Decreased income means increased needs when they are not meet crime generally increases. So more people will be in jail due to economic slow downs.

If they're let out, it floods the economy with bodies who need jobs & they'll compete with those of us who are already fighting for those few jobs out there.
