I have been on several different "cocktails" including Prozac--but the Prozac makes me a little manic, and I don't like the other suggestions doctors have made (anti-psychotics, Provigil, anti-convulsants). Tegretol made me non-functional. I could barely stand, I was so dizzy. I love Klonopin, but doctors don't let you be on it long-term. I don't understand why; it may be addictive, but it's the best anxiety med around.

I take 'prozac weekly' 3x a week (higher than usual dosage due to the obsessive-compulsive disorder) and take 75 mgs of seroquel (classified as an anti-psychotic but in smaller dosages helps with sleep and they think ocd as well) at nite.

Prozac, one of the ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antidepressant medications tends to give insomnia which is does to me ;) And seroquel can cause some problems with memory and it may with me, however, I've always had memory problems anyway :/

I had received cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt) from a clinical psychologist who specialized in anxiety disorders and had quite a few patients with ocd. I can't tell you how much the cbt helped me and continues to in case new ocd symptoms arise. Please feel free to share about what you take as well or are you doing research?

I'm sorry that you are having such a tough time finding the right type of meds to help the ocd symptoms. Klonipin or however it's spelled ;) is supposed to be physically addictive as it's one of the benzodiazepenes(sp?) which are 'mild' tranquilizers. If klonipin or the others in that category of drugs such as ativan, xanax and valium are stopped abruptly, horrible consequences can occur including seizures, psychosis (a break from reality) or even death. That is why a psychiatrist took me off of ativan a few years ago and put me on the anti-psychotic seroquel instead. Seroquel is supposed to help the brain neurotransmitter, dopamine, which is found to have a link to ocd as well as serotonin.

Seroquel doesn't have the same addictiveness as the benzo's, however, no medication should be stopped abruptly anyway and only under a dr's ok.

Just a P.S. I had taken Wellbutrin due to my also having ADHD, and it was just horrible for me! It made me so dizzy that I couldn't even function as you mentioned while being on a different medication. Wellbutrin works with the serotonin as well as the norepinephrine and with the severe dizziness came being much more quick to anger than usual.

I'm on Anafranil (Clomipramine) for ocd and anxiety. So far it is working quite well. The first week or two it made the anxiety seem really bad, thank goodness thats over.
