~~~ penny,,,, Quite true, but only partially. You should also investigate Saoshyant of Zoroastrianism and Horus of The Ancient Egyptian Osiris & Isis Religion, (and of course, Krishna and Buddha), to get a greater perspective and you will find other characters and scenarios which were plagiarized to develope The Christian Motif.
if i remember correctly mithras was a persian diety who was "invited" by the romans to be worshiped by them and almost became the state religion but everything else does have and strong similarity to the jesus story (dying and being reborn to save the world is a common theme in near eastern pagan religions). the reason for christianity winning out was probably the fact that it comes from a provinced area of the empire rather than one which originates from outside it in a country with bad relations with the romans
No Jesus is based on the historical person Jesus, son of Mary, Mithras is based on the mythological person Mithras, a Persian god.
It's amusing to see that people think that Jesus must be a legend based on ancient mythologies, that there exists similarities is a sign of the longing of mankind for the Redeemer and His blessed mother, facts are far more wonderful than fiction.
Yes, Jesus is based on Mithras. Rather, the Jesus myth is based on Mithras. I think Jesus was real and very different than he's been depicted by Christianity's founders. Jesus was a good rabbi, but he was made the poster boy for a new social/political movement which did a designer makeover on him post mortem.
Yes the people stole the holidays dec 25th from mithras and made it jesus's bday when he wasnt even born around then.
They stole a lot of the story and made it into a christian thing.
asking christians is going to be pointless. theyve never heard nor researched mithras, but that question will immediatly give them the right to answer and defy that claim even though they know abosolutely nothing about mithras.
stupid christians.
furthermore jesus wasnt even born on december 25th like they claimed. that was the birth date of mithras. they coppied this day for jesus.
Actually all of the Bible stories are based on other religions. The easiest way to incorporate your religion into a new society is to take into your religion part of their beliefs. That way it is easier for someone to adopt the new religion. This is the case with Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc. It has gone on from the beginning of time.
Sure, you can doubt Jesus' godhood, but this seems like you're doubting his existence. Even amongst the atheists, this is a bit of a ridiculous claim.
All of Christianity is based on stolen myths. Should it really be a suprise that Jesus is too?
There were many deities born of a virgin and on Dec. 25th no less.
You would have thought that when they invented the virgin birth of Jesus, they would have used some originality.
