I was raised Catholic. I was brought up to believe in going to church on every Sunday. But as I am older now, I rarely go to church, except on holidays like Easter and Christmas.
I still believe in God, Jesus, the Bible, everything that Catholics and Christians believe in. I pray to God every night and throught the day. But I do not know if I believe in Church anymore. The Catholic Church has changed since I was a child. It has become more modern and I don't like it. Do you think it is a sin for not going to church? Do you think God thinks it is a sin?

All churches, including the Catholic church, struggle to keep up the old traditions while at the same time stay relevant and meaningful to modern members. Some people find the Catholic Church too old-fashioned and out of touch, especially on issues such as contraception and divorce. Others like yourself feel that the church has changed too much, especially since Vatican II.

The Episcopal Church in the US recently appointed an openly-gay Bishop. This has pleased some gays as well as civil-rights advocates, but at the same time it angered conservatives.

Is it a sin to not attend Mass? According to Catholic doctrine yes. Does God consider this a sin? Neither you nor I will know for sure in this world.

Contrary to popular belief, different Catholic Churches are different. While the church hierarchy does not promote shopping around for a Catholic Church, people certainly do it. Some churches still celebrate the old Latin Mass, if that is what you are looking for.

No it is not a sin ! I believe that God is where ever you are , and if you live your life trying to honour the commandments and you believe in helping others, you are a good person . Going to church to prove your love and belief in God is for those who also feel the need to belong to a group , or are lonely , or are just those who like to be around others while they are being close to God. It is society that has made this feeling of need to be in church to believe in God . All people and all leaders of specific religions have and will put their own meanings into the bible or their form of the bible or something that is sacred in their religion. Some people even take these beliefs to the extreme, and will hurt, kill or punish people for not conforming to that religion the way they expect.
This is my own opinion , I also believe in God. My dad was Roman Catholic and my mom is Buddhist. God has come through for me in ways that are incredible. I do not go to church , but I pray to God for my family and for the safety of others in the world. He saved my Daughter from dying when the hospitals did not even know what was wrong with her. That was when she was only 3 months old, she was only one step away from death, Respiratory paralysis, which means she would have died in her sleep. So if you think that you have to go to church to be a christian , or that you need to worship or say your prayers in front of a statue or picture or in the middle of a group of people. In my opinion that is the wrong belief.
I am not here to judge how others live but how to better my own life and fix my problems so that I can help others.

With almost all churches that I know of or heard of becoming more and more heterodox, I do not see a problem with leaving them altogether. I personally do not attend an "organized" church, but go to a house church, which meets on Thursdays and not Sundays. The Bible does not speak in terms of church having to be a separate building or place, but a gathering of believers. There is nothing inherently wrong however with attending a traditional church.

You would do well to explore other options and do not let others tell you that you are sinning.

I don't think it's a sin. Do you miss the fellowship you received at your church? If you are not happy with the Catholic church you might want to go "church shopping" and do some research on line of other religions and churches. Just be careful, make sure you know as much as possible about a potential church you want to join. There are a few cults out there that we reel you in if your not informed.

Yes, it is a sin.

St Paul told us "We should not stay away from our assembly, 13 as is the custom of some, but encourage one another, and this all the more as you see the day drawing near. (Heb 10: 25) The Catholic Church takes this to mean that you must attend Sunday Mass.

Jesus Christ established the catholic Church to carry on His mission. Disobedience to the Church is disobedience to Jesus Christ.

"You cannot pray at home as at church, where there is a great multitude, where exclamations are cried out to God as from one great heart, and where there is something more: the union of minds, the accord of souls, the bond of charity, the prayers of the priests." - St. John Chrysostom

Church is to structure our faith. You should go and support your church and fellow Christians it is only a couple of hours a week and it makes you feel much better the whole week long. I am not a Catholic but I know you can be a Christian without Church but you really should go to support your community. God Bless.

It is a mortal sin
You are commanded By God through the Church to attend every Sunday and Holy days of obligation. ( 3rd commandment)
It is also sacrilege to partake in the Blessed Eucharist while in a state of mortal sin. Go to confession and the God of mercy will be waiting for you. The angels in Heaven will rejoice of your return. Attend The most Holy Mass for the love of the Father and not because you have to and maybe your perspective on matters pertaining to your faith will change. God Bless and come home

no, I do not believe that it is a sin. Fellowship of any kind is important but not necessary. All you got to do to get to Heaven is believe in God and the salvation through Jesus Christ. As long as you do those things and ask for forgiveness and repent I think you will be just fine. Church is a great place to worship and it kind of helps to have a family of believers to turn to but again, it is not a sin to not go to Church.

Mav doesn't read anywhere in the bible where it say.
"Thou shalt go to church on Sunday."
It does say, however, not to give up fellowship with fellow believers... if not church, perhaps start or attend a neighborhood bible study.
Mav knows several good ones.
