I rarely see a new point in the theist/atheist debate. Even those I see are usually attributed to people who lived and died before I was born. Is there anything left to contribute to this debate, or might there be something important in the future?

I would find this much more interesting if it were really used for getting answers to questions than for debating. Because there is no real solution to the debate. Those who are atheists will not become theists because of YA, and those who are theists will not become atheists because of YA. Every once in a while an intelligent point is made on one side or another, but most of it is punching in the air.
If someone generally wants information about a particular belief system or non-belief system, or if someone is looking for information about how to apply a certain conviction in a certain situation, I think there is a wealth of knowledge and wisdom out there that could be shared. It's too bad to waste the time and space on empty debate. Especially the kind of debate that says: "If you think.... then your an idiot", etc.

everything takes time. its just all crazy that since the industrial revolution years ago and now the technology revolution with the internet more info is provided and discussed faster than research can be conducted.

archaeologists and historians are always finding new and additional stuff to prove and disprove history so i really think theres more to be learned and the debate will continue with the introduction of new facts. but its hard right now to do anything but bicker with no new info surfacing.

its like when tommy lee jones says to will smith in men in black:

Everything we've ever "known" has been proven to be wrong. A thousand years ago everybody knew as a fact, that the earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, they knew it was flat. Fifteen minutes ago, you knew we humans were alone on it. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

Even in the ancient times, i.e. the Greeks, they thought that everything had been said/done before. . . And see how wrong they were? (Although I think what they really meant was that nothing is really a new idea). If you have something to say then say it, that is what Yahoo! Answers is all about.

There might be something important in the future, but you must realize that the time is now.

There are two things to be learnt and remembered from World War II: the dangers of lies and silence.

> "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it,
> people will eventually come to believe it."
- Joseph Goebbels

> When the Nazis arrested the Communists,
> I said nothing; after all, I was not a Communist.
> When they locked up the Social Democrats,
> I said nothing; after all, I was not a Social Democrat.
> When they arrested the trade unionists,
> I said nothing; after all, I was not a trade unionist.
> When they arrested me, there was no longer anyone who could protest."
- Martin Niemöller

The godbots and politicians of the world reiterate lies again and again. Those lies must be refuted again and again or the public will swallow them. It's easier to accept lies from "authority" than it is to learn them for yourself.

Laziness and submission are easy, you need to do nothing to find them. Knowledge and freedom requires work and vigilance.

If you want to blame anyone for the same posts appearing again and again, blame those who repeat the lies. They are like jackals: no matter how often they are shown for what they are and get chased away, they keep coming back to leech off of others, opportunist cowards who attack the weak for their own benefit.

Nah, it has been pretty much all said already.

It is kinda cute when someone cuts & pasts a centuries old argument about Bible "contradictions" -- like he discoverd something new since he thinks that he is the first person to ever actually read the book -- without realizing that his particular point has been argued and rebutted and reargued and re-rebutted for hundreds of years.

Like ancient people couldn't read, and didn't notice or agrue about the very same things.

There could be something important in the future, but as for now, it's all about finding new ways to ask the same old questions.

There are few new points, but occasionally something comes up. I have been able to prove the following theorem: The usefulness (i.e., predictive power) of any theory derives exclusively from its refutability. It follows immediately as a corollary that every irrefutable theory is useless: it can predict nothing. Since no theory of god is refutable, it follows that every such theory is useless: no such theory can have any use in the real world.

No. It's similar to the flat earth / round earth debate. The issue has been resolved centuries ago. There is nothing to add to it.

Some would tell you that there isn't a limit to the number of times a question should be asked.
