In the case of adoption: I realize there are many couples that want to adopt.

But how many kids are in orphanages, and how expensive is it to adopt? And where are people adopting from, America? No.

Ha Ha- I like the Church Lady's answer. But in reality, depending on the country, it's most likely foster parents- who in turn are paid (quite well) by the government. (I was a foster parent for about 7 years, so I do know what kind of "reimbursement" they receive.) So, indirectly, we all are. And usually unwanted babies are being born to poor mothers. If they are not allowed to have an abortion, then welfare will be paying to raise them- again financed by the taxpayers. If the babies are unwanted, the chances of them being abused or neglected are astronomically higher also. So the taxpayers have to support all these unwanted, uncared for children who will probably grow up with emotional problems. A vast number of foster children end up staying "in the system" in one form or another (welfare, jail, rehab) throughout adulthood.

A good question, although the one I keep hammering on is this:

With all the pontificating about the evils of abortion, WHY do fundamentalists keep conveniently avoiding the fact that the teen pregnancy rate in the USA is NINE TIMES that of the Netherlands, where they take sex education and contraception SERIOUSLY??

Take a few seconds to let that sink in. NINE TIMES WORSE than the USA.

Why, here, do we keep promoting some fantasy idea like abstinence when we could be making a real dent in careless, unwanted pregnancies and abortions?

Why?

How long before reality smacks you upside the head?

Give teens access to contraception. Put the onus on the pregnancy, NOT the sex. Decrease careless pregnancies. Decrease teen abortions. Probably decrease some STDs.

Arrgh! I feel like doing a John Belushi 360º spin onto the floor...

Some people will use any argument to justify capital punishment. The difference is some of us insist that a crime, beyond "being conceived", actually be committed.

Why are babies stolen from hospitals? How do baby brokers stay in business? How do attorneys survive on a practice of nothing but adoptions? Why is there a demand for black market babies?

Sorry, but you have no idea of what you speak. The only reason there is an unadopted baby anywhere in the US is because adoption laws nation wide make adopting harder than buying a nuclear weapon in Boston or San Francisco. I know three couples who have given up on adopting because of government red tape and the inability to afford the representation necessary to work outside of government channels.

BTW, your comparison of apples and oranges in your question illustrates just how little you do know about the issue.

The mothers who had the babies in the first place are actually a likely answer, even though adoption is a valid outlet. See, they don't counsel you about the psychological damage done by abortion, nor do they tell you about the joy that comes from having the baby. This is a recurring theme from people who I have seen or talked to who have struggled with this decision.

Hun,
there are SO many people out there that want kids.
I am adopted. My adopted mom recently told me that my birth mom was 14, did drugs and so did my dad. I mean, i could've been one of those aborted phetus' (spell?) and not have lived this awesome life. I also could've been a drug baby, but you know what my parents now are the only parents i've ever had as far as i am concerned. I love my life and family. I am so glad a little girl didnt take that away from me.

For all of those who said adoption. Do you realize how expensive and difficult it is to adopt a child in America? Why do you think most people go overseas? It's cheaper and not as difficult. There isn't as much red tape. More foreign babies are adopted which leaves a lot of orphans in America still in foster homes or in other care because this country is so money hungry.

Every single state in the USA has a waiting list of people who want to adopt babies, and are willing to pay the highway-robbery prices of working to obtain a baby.

There is no such thing as an unwanted baby.

There are also groups and organizations that are in place to help a mother choose parents directly so that the adoption agencies are cut out of the loop and thus the costs are far lower.

Jehovah GOD will provide for these babies and make sure they go to a loving home and family. Abortion is wrong and the scriptures point this out. In the scriptures a man was held accountable if he injured a pregnant woman's baby, and if that baby died he was to be put to death. There are beautiful scriptures in the Bible that say, "Your eyes saw even the embryo of me, in your book all my parts were down in writing"
Life is precious and babies should not be aborted.

There are many many people waiting to adopt children. A lot of people are waiting to have a child to love, and raise as there own. Their is no need to kill the unwanted babies. They may not be wanted by you, but they are wanted by others.

Abortion is against God's law. Exodus 21:22

22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life, 24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Notice that the punishment for a simple "abortion" without "mischief" is chosen. God allows people to choose the punishment, or lack thereof, for the crime. The word "strive" is derived from a Hebrew word for struggle. The word "mischief" means harm or injury, of a sexual nature in this context.

The law separates the losing of the fruit, abortion, from the harm following in any case.

So the punishment for abortion is up the the husband and the interpreters of the law.

The most obvious answer is, if you don't want a child, Do Not have sexual intercourse.
