I was approached about becoming a legal guardian of a baby in Mexico. I live in the US. What I want to do is bring the baby here to the US to live with us but everything I found is costly and lengthy in process. Does anyone know have any information that might help. The mother is willing to sign guardianship papers or a power of attorney.

The situation you describe requires you to adopt the baby in Mexico under Mexican law. Once the baby is legally adopted you'll have to live in Mexico with the child for two years.

After two years you can file a Form I-130 and all the supporting documents with the CIS. It will take about 6 months to process. Once you get a visa you can bring the child to the US.

If the child was an orphan and you were using an international adoption agency you would not have the two year wait.

After you adopt the child, wait 2 years in Mexico, and bring the child to the US the CIS considers all the child's ties to his natural family to be severed forever. The child cannot turn around at age 21 and petition his natural brothers, sisters or parents.

nicely first you should decide which citizenship you pick the toddler to have. Mexico would not enable twin citizenship. in case you pass American citizen then the youngster can get Mexican nationality yet can no longer vote, carry public workplace, etc. in Mexico. the youngster would not be in a position to run for president (the Panama canal zone were given a particular exemption from congress). they gained't be giving Mexico any particular exemptions each and anytime quickly!

I think you are being used and lied to. In your heart you may mean well but to take a baby out of Mexico is difficult. It is a long process and very very expensive with lot of mordita. You have better chance of winning the UK Lottery. Stay away from it.

She want to get her kid here so in the future she can use that as a excuse to get her green card. If you want to help a child, try helping one here.
