All religions have radicals that will justify there behavior by distorting the scriptures. whitch hunts, Richard the great and his holly crusade and so on. Look at what's going on in the middle east that's all based on a distortion of the islamic religion.

Why would a pagan want to hear this is questionable, but there seems to be a breakdown in communications from the Bible that everyone doesn't understand. The old testament describes the manner the people were to live according to the conditions God said at the time then; which were harsh, paganistic, self-centered. The new testament gives conditions of change brought forth by the Messiah to counter the conditions; with love, peace, sharing. The people who strictly believe in God, Allah, or the other names given by man read the words from the old testament, the eye for an eye version and believing they are the ones to fulfill the testament, act in self-centered authority. The passive believers can't really do anything other than try to convince those by the call on the words of God as said by Jesus. So it's not really for Jesus these people are willing to kill, but the old testament law of God.

I am a Christian and I consider myself politically and morally conservative. I do not aim to kill anyone or anything, except maybe spiders. :) I'm sorry that you have been hurt by Christians in the past. The only thing I can tell you is that Christians are still human. We still make mistakes and don't always live the way God wants us to. As an example: do you always do everything your parents want you to do? Disobeying your parents doesn't make you not their child. Likewise, when Christians don't act like we should, it doesn't mean that we aren't Christians. God desires for everyone in the world to come to know and love Him and find salvation through Jesus.
Bottom line: born again Christians have a new nature and should want to follow God in all things, but occasionally we miss the mark and don't. It doesn't mean that all Christians are like that, but all Christians at one time or another will mess up. It's a daily struggle. Christian does not equal perfection.

I feel as though many people who claim to be Christians start defending Christianity for egotistical reasons and not because they are geniunely concerned for the other persons well being. They defend it because they want to be RIGHT about what they believe. A believe a mature Christian knows deep down that they have the best answer, and they don't need to convince anyone, but they will share it with those who are open to new ideas.

Because they ARE...

Oh, sure, they say they don't want to hurt anyone, they just want everyone to accept the lord jesus as their savior...OR GO TO HELL.
Yep, that's some kind religion -- either they'll kill you or they figure god will, either way if the "unbelievers" die they're happy.

By the way, as a result of posting answers about reason and facts here, I've received a number of death threats from "good christians" in e-mail. One person told me he was going to ask god to strike me down immediately. Ha! Still here...:)

Dan 2:44 talks about Jehovah God's Kingdom destroying all earthly Governments. God's Kingdom is a Government, Isa 9:6-7.
King James version. Jesus said my people are no part of this world. How does Jesus really feel about people that get so involved in politics. Jesus is our model to follow. Jesus is King of that Kingdom and that Kingdom will rule forever.

I don't want to kill anyone, I would like everyone to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and gain entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven.

It's your choice, choose wisely.

Jesus would never ask anyone to kill for him, so any true Christian wouldn't be willing to kill unless in self defense or defense of a loved one. Maybe what you feel is the threat that we are right and you are trying to convence yourself that you are right.

With some of them you get a tangible sense of their bitterness and intolerance from reading their rhetoric. I have no doubt that a lot of them are dangerous.
