I've got 3 bulging discs in my back, and my doctor prescribed Propoxyphene-n 100 w/acetaminophen (generic Darvocet) to get me through till my orthopedic appt at the end of March. I know this is the highest dose, but after about 2 hours, the pain came back. It isn't as bad as it is without the meds, but it's there. I don't know if I should just ignore it or try to get something stronger. I can work okay taking the Darvocet, so I worry if I took something else, I'd be unable to function normally.

I guess I'm just wondering if there's something a bit stronger that won't make me unable to work.

There are much better pain meds available. I take much stronger drugs and am fully functioning. In fact, the meds have given me back my life not detracted from it. Addiction is a psychological response and depedence is physical. Huge difference between the two.
Talk to your doctor and see if there's something else (there are other meds that are not opioids that can help with pain) he can give you.
Good luck!!!

See a chiropractor (who uses an activator or wedges NOT manual manipulation) and massage therapist.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Darvocett is considered a narcotic, you shouldn't be driving or doing any dangerous activity. Anything stronger will affect you, but maybe not as much as the next person cause you've already been on Darvoctt. bummer about the pain, don't take more, cause the Tylenol will screw up your liver. Ask your doc, maybe he'll just put you off work and give you something stronger.

There is alot stronger medication out there...but, what your doctor is doing for you is this. He, or she, is guiding you through a life without depending on pills......once you get into the stronger types of Oxy and Hydro codone's you will become hooked and you may as well just cash in everything and find out where the next methadone clinic is and get in line.....you will get hooked if you go higher and rely on a pill to run your life......explore all options before increasing strengths on your meds....trust me, I speak from experience.

Keep Well
