I don't thing Mormons are alone in this hatred or prejudice. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and we see it too!
We're a cult, we're not christian etc... blah, blah, blah....
Even though I do not agree with all the Mormon teaches, I respect their love of family and that they also do some door to door witnessing.
Any question on this forum should be about what does the bible really teach. What doctrines are bible based. A searching for the truth. Not a bashing of each religion, christian or not, atheist or not. Jesus said you would know his followers because they have love among themselves. You don't see a lot of love here.
I truly love to talk about the bible and it's hope for the future. I even like defending the bible to those who are atheist.
I agree that telling someone they are going to hell (which I believe that hell is just the grave) is childish and not a why to win someone over.

Yes I believe so. You see the right wing Christan wackos, as you call them are on an entirely different agenda. They don't believe that the Mormons are Christian but I have a hard time understanding why. Mormons, a nickname , belong to The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, their name implies that Jesus Christ is the focal point in their religion. Second they have the Book of Mormon as additional scripture to the Bible NOT to discredit the Bible in any way whatsoever but to act as a second witness to the Bible that Jesus is The Christ the Son of the living God and that he was born, lived, died and resurrected and lives today. If that isn't being a Christan, I don't know what is!!

I'm a Christian. I'll admit, I don't understand some of their rules and some do seem inconsistent to me (can't have iced tea because of the caffeine, if I'm right anyway, but can have chocolate, which contains caffeine, maybe it's that the amount in chocolate is so small, I don't know, anyway). However, I'm not an expert on Mormonism, so that could explain why I don't understand them. I do, though, consider them Christian, just a different denomination. I think the thing is that extreme Christians simply focus on the multiple wives aspect of it, which, to my knowledge, isn't as common today as it used to be. One of my good friends who was a bridemaid in my wedding is Morman, and her family doesn't practice that tradition. I don't understand some of the rules, but I do not hate Mormons by any means. But I do know what you mean about some Christians bashing them, and I think they're wrong.

I agree...people are afraid of what they don't understand, and not many non-Mormons understand what Mormonism is really about.
I personally don't like when people say that Mormonism isn't Christian, because it is. It's a Christian-Protestant religion.
And I think all this stink that people throw at Mormonism is just ridiculous. I'd say to those people "get out of your chair and actually LEARN something about the religion before attacking it". Because if you're ignorant about the religion, don't go attacking it randomly.

yes, Mormons are viciously hated by other branches of Christianity. I think Christians are hypocrites for this, since Jesus did the same thing Joseph Smith did...tried to add to the Bible. In 2000 years Joseph Smith may be deified as well.

Yes. I'm an atheist and I think so. I might add that the right wing fundies do a lot of the mormon bashing (as well as the general public).
Edit - Having said that, yes, THE most hated group, from a religious point-of-view, is Atheists. My son can't even be in boy scouts. Seriously.

Yes, I do. I see everyone attacked, Mormons included, by the right wing. I think they are the most hateful, judgmental bunch I have ever encountered.

True born again Christians love Mormons. It is impossible for one with the Love of God in their heart to hate anyone, even enemies. Not believing the Mormon book is true, isn't hating Mormons. But Jesus hates false doctrines trying to come into His Churches (Revelation to the 7 churches).
I hate the book of Mormon, because my God does. As a matter of truth. The Spirit of Truth is the one who told me to toss the Mormon book and that He is the anointing that will lead me into all truth, whom I can trust. 1 John 2:27
Another requirement is to test the Prophets to see if they are truly hearing from the LORD God. There will be those false prophets (in sheeps clothing) who will bring another gospel (Denying salvation, the gift of God through Jesus who shed His own blood for remission of sins, not of works lest anyone boast.) Or a different Jesus than Jesus Christ of Nazareth. That will lead to a different God, or just prophecy the Lord said something and that something didn't come to pass in the time said it would. And denying Jesus is the Christ who fulfills the Messianic prophecies of OT Prophets. Denies Jesus the only begotten Son of the Living God. Or denies Jesus raised from the dead a new everlasting body (flesh & bone).
I know mormons & I love them. But I have been wounded by them (only people you cares about can actually hurt you), because I believe in the God; Father, Son & Holy Spirit of the Holy Bible only. I hate the Mormon book, because it isn't inspired by my God, & contradicts Gods Saving Grace of the Holy Bible.
Also, the Mormon book does disrespect the Word of God in the Holy Bible in that Mormons believe there are errors in the Holy Bible in that it has been rewritten so many times. In the front of the Mormon book, it is written that it is the best book ever written (not the Holy Bible).
Also, the Koran also has written that it is the best book (better than the Holy Bible). So, which book is better, the Mormon book or the Koran. Both of these books claim the Bible was rewritten so many times and incorrect.

Yes, there are those among Christians who have wandered off the "love thy neighbor reservation" and like to spout hateful rhetoric without a solid grounding in their own and other doctrines.
Nevertheless, once one carefully studies the doctrines and theologies of the Mormon beliefs (see sources below), they can then form their own conclusions. I see no issue with someone objectively stating their opinions if they are based on a rational analysis of the issues.
Mormonism Summary:

Sadly, there are many members of religious groups that have staked their eternal souls on their superficial beliefs without searching the scriptures, studying hermeneutics, philosophy, logic, and theology to satisfy themselves that what they have been told is sufficiently rational and worth believing.

I've noticed more fundamentalist christians bashing scientology than the LDS, but yeah, some of them do seem to have something in particular against the mormons.
