It's supposed to mean having it in all the right places.
Now let's consider you diet. Do you eat McDonalds and other guy wrenching fast food? Do you get regular execise, or do you sit on te couch watching soaps and eating bon bons all day? if so he may have meant you are fat. If not he just meant your body was very attractive to him.

Oh my! What else are you missing in his conversations with you? Of course voluptuous is a compliment. Doubled by the use of the word sexy, unless you think sexy is negative! I have a curvy body and that is exactly what I am called. When your curves are in the right place- that is good. Accept the term. It can only be considered negative if the person sees you as voluptuous and they are looking for thin. Who needs that?! Enjoy your beautiful body that makes heads turn your way! It's a gift.

Voluptuous can be taken as an insult or a compliment. Marylin Monroe, one of the hottest female icons EVER was frequently described as voluptuous, and she has a great body (size 16!) And if he told you you are SEXY because you're voluptuous, totally take it as a compliment, hot stuff! I mean, I love love love when guys make compliments about my curves. I'm not fat either, but I'm definitely a curvy girl! Be proud of it!

Mostly i thought that term was used in reference to breasts. But curvy and voluptuous are not the same. I don't think it is meant as an insult but rather a compliment, especially if you are being told you are sexy at the same time

It's traditional meaning is more of the "curvy and sexy" than "overweight", although some use it as a polite way for saying a pretty girl is fat.
Some men prefer a few curves, and that's all good. If he likes your shape, let him call it voluptuous if it makes him feel sexy.

It depends, the guy in question says you're sexy because you're voluptuous, then I'd take it as a compliment. He obviously likes voluptuous women so don't sweat it.

No its not an insult. It means that you are curvy. Voluptuousness is actually something most healthy males like in a woman, not only does it mean your healthy but its also a sign of fertility. Look at the pictures of godesses of old. They are all very curvaceous.

Oh on the contrary, voluptuous is definitely a compliment.
1 a : full of delight or pleasure to the senses : conducive to or arising from sensuous or sensual gratification
b : suggesting sensual pleasure by fullness and beauty of form
2 : given to or spent in enjoyment of luxury, pleasure, or sensual gratifications
I believe 1b is the meaning that applies in this situation.

SM,
I'm kinda baffled by why someone would be insulted when they were declared sexy.
Fat means fat...obese, lard as s, those are insults. You were deemed voluptuous and sexy. A high compliment, to be sure.
