My wife has a butterfly rash on her face that gets worse when she is in the sun. She has a numb big toe, headaches, and fatigue. I think she should get checked but she doesn't seem concerned. Could this be something serious?

Butterfly rash on face is a trademark symptom of lupus. She should get it checked out...there is no cure but there are treatments for it.

The symptoms could certainly suggest lupus. I was diagnosed with lupus years ago, and eventually became crippled by it. I discovered I had food allergies (wheat, soy, eggs, commercial dairy) and when I eliminated those things from my diet, I healed completely. I have cheated on my diet 5 times in 3 years, and all 5 times the symptoms came back with a vegence. If I stick to the diet, I am totally fine. I am convinced that many illnesses, especially the ones more common nowadays, are nothing more than undiagnosed food allergies. Do encourage her to get checked out, but if I were her, I would start with allergy testing-it could save years worth of useless tests and diagnosis.

I really don't know. But if there are any concerns, I would suggest that you make your wife visit a physician for a through check-up. I had a friend who was admitted to the hospital with flu-like symptoms. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong with him for weeks. He died to days after being diagnosed with lupus. Go to the doctor and be persistant.

Certainly your wife is experiencing something unusual within her body, and whether it's lupus or something else, should go see a doctor for appropriate examination, blood and urine testing, which will identify and/or rule out what's going on.
Good luck!
