I don't know that you "should"...some do, some don't. Having it on the first date seems to increase the risk that it won't work out beyond that...but even then some couples do that and later end up marrying.
People "should" do what works best for them in this regard.

Once in a relationship there is no real reason to wait - I just wait until there actually is a relationship rather than being a booty call.

You shouldn't. You should let your feelings flow into it, even if it is the first night. My wife and I that have been together for 15 years, had sex the first night we met. Not the first date, the first night we met. It was great and she is a good woman. It goes to show you that waiting is crap, there is no need to.

Because why take the risks of something bad happening with someone who you thought was the one but realized 4 months later, they're not much. And don't say with condoms and protection because not everything is 100% perfect regardless of whether they promote it as it's 100% effective.
