You could use whitening toothpaste as the easiest answer. You might get one or two shades whiter teeth with this method.

The best way is to go to your dentist and get a whitening kit with customized trays. You will get the best, most even results this way. You wear the trays (that are like mouthguards) for 30 mins or an hour for several days. You should see great results this way. The cost is usually not that great either- maybe $100-200.

Using charcoal or straight hydrogen peroxide could seriously damage the enamel on your teeth and could damage your gums as well. (one lady we saw swished bleach around in her mouth daily and her gums had receeded back far and she is going to have to loose all of her teeth in the future).

You should see a professional if you are serious about whitening your teeth. If you only want slight results then try whitening toothpaste or a whitening kit that you can pick up at most drug stores.

Look for over-the-counter whitening products in your drugstore or grocery. Crest, Oral-B, Rembrandt- there are several manufacturers. The application can be a strip applied to the teeth, or painted on with a brush, or it can be a gel. There are toothpastes that help with whitening, but are not as effective, and should be used as maintenance. Below is a link to a site with most of the whitening systems listed.

Using charcoal will clean your breath (and cut down on the smell of alcohol in your breath) but it will not whiten your teeth. To whiten your teeth begin by cutting out staining foods such as coffee, tea and dark sodas. Eating strawberries will help to brighten and whiten your smile. Brush after every meal and make sure to floss. Your teeth are actually translucent, so make sure to brush the backs of your teeth as well as the front.

Believe it or not, the yellow spice turmeric whitens teeth--but get a separate toothbrush for it and don't make a mess with it, it stains linoleum and things yelllow.
I know it seems weird but in India they actually sell toothpaste with it in it!

I just heard something on the tv about using strawberries. I guess you just rub them on your teeth, and see what happens!
