Arrrh bless you love....you are a sensitive soul. I laugh at my dad all the time and love him more for the fact he doesn't care..he wants to dance and have fun then I cant stop him, but if my husband trys to get up to dance I either stop him or leave the room.
Don't be embarrassed, just be her DAD because she will always love you, no matter if you can dance or not and the fact they tell you to sit down isn't them being mean its just a giggle. Trust me in 5yrs time they will be dragging you up to dance.Take it from a 32yr old little girl who still laughs at her daddie.

Welcome to the club. What is dancing these days? I have found that most men I dance with have the same problem, I lucked out ballroom dancing was required in my boarding school, not that I ever get to use it much, but it has come in handy! Just pick a slow song and move along in a slow circle then back and forth sounds silly but it usually works, or there are books with floor plans, yes really that you can practice in the privacy of your own home if you can't locate a dance studio. Perhaps there is a friend who can help? Good luck.
As a laugh I tried the "country line dancing" not only did I about kill myself I was the brunt of many a joke for several lessons but I finally got the hang of it.

You can dance, but not the way your daughter likes. Your style is obviously different. Maybe at her party you could offer to teach her your moves, for a minute or two, no longer lol Ask your daughter to teach you her moves and see how far you get :)
I say dance your heart out until your daughter becomes a little irritated. Then you may sit down and watch the beauty unfold.
Have a great time!!

Hi again - Lots of 18yrs olds don't want their dad's at their party but she obviously does......a little wiggling about with your wife to me is in order. After all you too have lots to celebrate that you have brought her safely and succesfully up to this age. Also if you are allowing her some alcohol on the special birthday after a couple she may be pulling you on to the floor! If her friends are anything like my daughters they have often dragged my husband on to a dance floor, even if it was just to see how funny he was. You do for it your wife deserves a dance too. Have a great night!
PS Just remembering it's a surprise party.........oh to h--- just go for it!!!

If it really embarasses her to the point that it upsets her infront of her friends, then maybe you should just say that you've got a sore leg and refrain from dancing! On the otherhand, if she just gets a bit embarassed becuase of the typical 'dancing dad', just go for it and have a laugh!
Ps - Awwww, you sound like a nice dad by the way!

Judge yourself and make a decision. Survey the girls when you are not dancing to see if they would be embarassed at a party or wedding if you got up to dance. If you just love dancing, letthem know that so that maybe they are willingto compromise and allow you to enjoy yourself, too. Dad's are notorious for not being good dancers, although some are very good ones. Take the decision that will cause the least amount of problems and still allow everyone toenjoy the party. Look at Bill Cosby, he just clowned his way through and everyone allowed him to dance because it entertained them. Good luck.

Do not embarrass the kid! Stay seated like a good Dad!!!! If the party gets boring....you may dance with the Daughter's permission.

Dance! There's no wrong way to do it...move as you feel compelled to...
Besides that women dig men who dance...even those that don't dance well will get more positive attention than those that sit on the sidelines...if you're single, even better!
