Yes, I'm a perfect example! I'm even married now.
I met my husband when he was working in my country, but then I had planned to leave for studies in Europe around the same time that he had to return to his home country-Canada. I come from an island state in the Indian Ocean, so at least Europe was closer to America! What kept our relationship alive, is never let the passion die, or the connection fall flat. We were talking almost everyday and we both made the efforts to overcome the time difference. The best way we overcame the huge telephoe bill, was thanx to yahoo messenger or even msn you can make voice conversation, which is as good as a telephone conversation. We were up-to-date with each other's life., and we felt that we were never seperated by the huge ocean. The crack starts to appear in a relationship the longer intervals in between keeping in touch.. weeks, months..then u're drifting apart. Knowing that my B.F was calling me everyday for long hours, it's more guaranteed that he is not being distracted by new love interests, although I don't deny 'the chances. My hubby called me each day after work as a strater. Then he would let me focu on my studies for a few hours, then he would come online again around bedtime, and i could hear his environment that he was home and not at an internet cafe outside. So surely he did get tired and I trusted him that he went to bed after our long conversations! So, if u would talk everyday, I guarantee it can work, and it should be both people making the effort. Imagine the telephone bills if the new technology didn't exists, even the webcam makes it more exciting-u can even see his face everyday. That's why a lot of people gave up in former years, bcoz it was too hard. My B.F was also making sacrifices to save and visit me in Europe, but of course if u realy want to have a future together-u can't keep draining al your money in airfares. You shouldn't keep the distance forever, but save the money for your own financial securities as a couple. So after 1 year, I decided to drop my studies in Europe to get married and pick up the rest of my life in my hubby's country.

My conclusion; distant relationship can work, unless it's not forever, and u avoid the silence.( speak everyday). Seeing someone making the sacrifice for you, proves that he is truly worth not letting go!
