People are afaird of different. As with most things that is the image people get of "bad" people because of mouth running. In truth tats mean little as far as being mugged or hurt in some way! think about how many times you have seen on the news interveiws people saying how nice and "normal" someone seemed before they killed someone! Please Tats don't make you bad, I am a 5'1" tall woman and I have three tats 7 peircings... am I gonna mug anyone? NO! People just need to get over sterio types and learn that any one can be good or bad regaurdless of how they look! And as a side note one of the biggest teddy bear type guys I know is HUGE has two peirceing in his chin that he often wears "fangs" in and he is tattooed head to toe most larger men would not want to mess with him... but he is one of the nicest people. In fact alot of the tattooed people I have met are nice and go figure...it has nothing to do with tats!

If you're a sexy guy with a nice smile and a nicer personality people will look passed the tattoos. It's so common now that I don't even look twice. Even the white collar man or woman has a hidden tattoo somewhere on their body's, or fantasize about it, or have a place that they've picked out if they had the nerve to go ahead. If they look down on you, they haven't given you a chance, or they are very narrow minded people. Movies, Stereotypes I think are all in the past. It's the person not the tatts!! I have 3, and a belly piercing of 10+ years and I'm a PTO mom and a wife!! I'm proud of them and if you don't like it then SO WHAT.

I agree with Chiky that although tattoos are becoming more mainstream and common, there is still a negative connotation associated with those sporting alot of ink. Unfortunately, these stereotypes persist, but hopefully, over time, society will completely accept them. So, the best you can do for now is to try and not let the ignorant folk who look down on you for your body art get to you, and as for employment, covering up your sleeve would be a good idea so that your perspective employer focuses on you and your talents/skills, as opposed to your physical attributes. There isn't a whole lot you can do to change everyone's mind, but when you do come across someone who can be postively influenced by you, then great! That will hopefully be one less person on this planet who discriminates against a tattooed person.

I get looked down on non stop for my piercings since they are always just there, though a few are hidden. Usually my tats are covered just because of my daily style (always pants and usually plain tank top/t-shirt), but people do make a fuss about it when they are exposed (family and strangers alike, a few 'friends' too)
Its just the stereotype and bad mindset that so many people have and its something that will be VERY hard for people to ever look past. Though society is making small progressions about it, I don't expect full acceptance any time soon.
The only thing I can tell you is to try to keep your chin up about it. You know who you are and so do the loving people in your life and the harsh comments are from people who are just angry and bitter. You just can't take it to heart but you can see it as a chance to explain who you are to them and maybe they'll learn a little.
As far as interviews go, keep it covered until you get the job and know how the company runs, but always check with your boss before showing off tats and piercings.

This society is slowly becoming more accepting of tattoos. But full sleeves are usually associated with rock or punk bands (or musicians in certain genres) or people who are radical and don't fear much. This is just the way it is for the time being. You could have tattoos of Care-Bears or My Little Pony and it's still going to evoke a similar reaction. My recommendation for job interviews or employers, wear long sleeves no matter how hot it is and show them who you are before you tell or show them the tattoos. Let them trust you and not your body art first. Good luck!

Sport your tats... Respect yourself and others, and you can prove people wrong. When someone is walking behind you, hold the door... whenever you make eye contact with another, smile and ask "how's it going". People are so quick to judge, but really you're in a fight that only you can win for yourself. I too, personally have tattoos, and love them. Some people think of me as "trampy, thug or punk" whatever... my tats symbolize me at the time in my life when I got them. Don't sweat it.... be better then the hypocrites judging you.
Don't forget to smile and have fun!

People watch too many movies where the bad guys have tatoos and are theives and criminals of all sorts.
You have been stereotyped unfortunatley.
Personally I hate tattoos, but I have good friends who have literally covered themselves in them and are by no means criminals of any sort. They love the art of tattooing.
Maybe that new show on TV about tattooing will help with the stereotyping of people with tattoos.

though tattoos are becoming more mainstream, not everybody understands them. a lot of fear comes from the history of tattoos, where 50 years ago only freaks, outcasts or sailors were thought to have tatoos.
the best thing to do when encountered with a negative reaction, do your best to not take it personally and use the situation as an opportunity to teach the person about your views.
if you react badly to people when they stare at you, even if they are being rude, you'll only perpetuate their negative ideas.

People always play the odds. If you have lots of tatoos, odds are you are a violent person/have been in prison/do drugs. They think better to stay away from you than risk having you kill them.
before you got those tatoos, did you not know people would react to you different?

You are entitled to your point of view of tattoos as art and self-expression. From my point of view, it is mutilation of the body and I can admit to having the old fashioned attitudes regarding them. There is the simple fact that the sight of tattoos makes my flesh crawl, and possibly an excuse for me to back away from a relationship (would you want your partner to wince every time he/she saw your tat?).
