So I mentioned about my fear of having a serious illness and checking my body over and over despite MDs telling me I'm fine and extensive blood work. So this could be the same condition that causes me to say "Ok Greg, if you don't pick the phone up off of the table before the oven timer goes off in 3 seconds, then you are not going to get the job you applied for!" ? These seem polar opposite. How can they be related?

They are anxiety related behaviours, slightly obsessive. Try to relax and not focus on things over which you have no control. There are many things which you do have some control or influence over.As soon as your mind wanders into anxious areas such as your health or Greg's job, mentally say stop and switch to thinking about something positive you can do. Two suggestions are either doing something to help someone else or alternatively doing something not involving people such as gardening. Either of these types of approach will help to form the habit of moving your mind off yourself.

ok sounds like you might have two disorders here. one would be like everyone said-OCD the other might be hypochondriac-you think you have soemthing you dont!! there are also other disoders like hypochondriac i think it is somatism and something else. the best place to find out these disorders is the library. go to the library to the reference section and look for the DSM-IV-TR. it is the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders. it is used by the psychology profession to diagnose people with disorders. in the front it list all of the disrders and the page numbers they talk about it on. it will tell you a little bit about the disrders and give you the signs/syptoms that you must have in order to have the disorder. also i would suggest you see a psychologist or social worker (like psychologist but only has BA or BS instead of PhD and sometimes better then a psychologist and cheaper!!) if you do need meds they will refer you to a psychiatrist. i would suggest you see a behavioral/cognitive psychologist/social worker since both disorders have to do with behaviior and thinking (cognitive). hope this info helps you out!!

I answered your other question before I read this one. It does sound as if you have some type of obsessive compulsive disorder. This can be easily treated and does not need to adversely affect the rest of your life.

The way they are related is that neither of them are realistic. If you have been giving a clean bill of health and still worry when you are healthy, this is not realistic. If you think picking up the phone quickly will help you get a job, this is not realistic either.

There's no way to know for sure unless you see a psychiatrist.
Mental health exams do not include blood work or physical exams.

It's possible that you may have a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder but you'd need to see a psychiatrist in order to get an accurate diagnosis. You can read more about OCD here:
