i've talked to them and management several times, and it's only gotten worse. i'm happy that they're "happy" and in an "very enjoyable" relationship... but i *really* need my sleep. and as much joy as they find in each other i'd like to find some way to get some quiet rest in my own damn place!

I've lived in apartments a long time (moving to a house soon, yea!) and have been in this situation. Depending on the noise policy of your apartment complex, yes, if it's after 10 PM or whatever cut-off time they have for noise, then definitely talk to management again, and don't be delicate about it so there's no misunderstanding. "I am kept awake by my upstairs neighbors having sex" is more clear than "noisy" neigbors who keep you up at "night", as your question was phrased. Be clear about the problem and what you want done about it. Put your complaint in writing too. Don't rely on phone calls or visits with apartment management.
However, if it's before 10 PM or the designated cut-off noise time of your complex, well, that's the price of the downstairs apartment. I always pick the top floor to minimize hearing others' noise. Play music to help you fall back to sleep and drown them out. I've actually had a downstairs neighbor complain about me, and we took our fun to the living room. Solved the problem. Good luck.

Call the police because if they are too noisy and get complaints they will get a fine for noise and may even move out. For the time being you can always sleep in the living room or crank you music when they are really noisy they will get the point. better yet rent a porn movie play it real loud when you know they are sleeping!!

You can either:
Buy earplugs or some source of "white noise" (noisy electric air filter, sleep machine, etc.) to drown it out.
or
Accept that multi-family dwellings just aren't to your taste and move.
Say what you want about manufactured (mobile) homes, at least you won't have upstairs neighbors going at it like rabbits all night. :-D

GET YOUR ON PLACE !!! Do it right and it is much less expensive than renting or leasing... Then who knows, you may actually own it some day ( still renting cause the Gov. will take it from you less you pay THEM !!!). Gets cheaper (usually ....).

I kick my soccer ball at the ceiling till they knock it off. Usually works but makes the next morning a little akward as you see them leaving their apartment.

Call police if your manager isn't doing anything- have your contract in your hand and quote it to him/her. Inform that your lawyer will be calling him up if it persists.
