10mg once a day..is that good for anxiety?

I did some looking in my Med Micro and Pharm stuff and a bit of research. Lexapro (Which I am pretty sure is also by Forest Pharmaceuticals) is more noted as an anxiety medication. Also Celexa has growing or new bouts of anxiety as one of the side effects. It really depends as to why the anxiety is there and how it is defined as. It has been used as an anti-anxiety med most often in reference to depression and social anxiety disorder.
From what I remember (and I ran a look in my Pharm and Med Micro books for ya so this isn't half-assed, I did look this up too ^.^), Celexa is an SSRI or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Inhibitors can have a large reaction without a large amount used. Also, most dosages are started at 10mg and if needed can be moved to 20mg, 30mg, or 40mg (though I only saw 30mg dosages mentioned in the med journals at my university's online database). From what I have read and what my professor (who IS an MD) said, it seems(no numbers here, just her impression) that it is common to be moved beyond 10 mg dosage. If it works for you, that is the most important part however. I would let your physician/psychiatrist know of your concern and assess of your reaction to the Celexa and the need/safety of a higher or your current dosage.
(I'm a "wanna do something med but can't chose which field yet" student ^.^ so I'm doing it all ^.^ genetics, pharm, nursing for now so I can help people and pay for it all ^.^V soo I have information from good sources, but I am NOT an MD or psychiatrist. I wanted to share what I have learned because I feel its relevant to your concern, but I am not a pharmacist nor an MD (yet!) so I would also ask your personal physician/psychiatrist because they would know personal information that may affect you that I don't know. I did ask 2 MDs though, so there's some pretty good basis for all of this)

Oh and it seems that you should have an initial idea of your reaction to it in 5-14 days (though it is different for everyone), so depending on that you may or may not want to comment to your physician/psychiatrist.

Good luck with everything! Hope this helps.

I don't know, but with any anxiety or anti-depression medication be sure to acquaint yourself with ALL of the side effects.

Some of them can ruin your life, especially if your dosage is too high. You don't want your libido impacted, or to have "shocks" or whatever...

Also, I wouldn't ask a question like that on a service like this, as, even if someone were in fact a doctor, they would have no real way of proving that that's what they were. Maybe look up Celexa on wikipedia and consult a physician?

The therapeutic dose range is 20mg-60mg daily according to wikipedia.

I tried it for anxiety and it didn't do me any good. But everyone is different - you should at least give it a try and seem, it's not addicting and is not a potent as some of the drugs I have to take to deak with anxiety - so give it a shot - you've got nothing to lose by trying it.

If it doesn't work then ask tell your doctor to try something else. There are a lot of different things out there for anxiety, and some of them are addictive (I'm afraid).

Depends on the person, I suppose. I take 20mg a day, and it is WONDERFUL.. It doesn't make me a zombie, just knocks the edge off enough for me to function normally!!
