She giggles incessantly and uncontrollably at work - sometimes at nothing, at other times things that aren't funny at all. I'm sure she's going to go postal and bring a gun to work one day. Until then, how can I ignore her?

I know this sounds ridiculous, but it's a real problem. I can't move away from her, and I already have the noise-reduction headphones. I can't wear those all the time, though. She's nuts! with completely inappropriate behavior. What do I do?

Considering that sociopaths have to fake their emotions, she can't be both giggling and a sociopath.

That's funny! Are you sure that she's not on drugs? I think in the work environment that someone consistently giggling for no apparent reason could be distracting and possibly affect your work. Perhaps you should say something to either her or your supervisor, maybe both. Worse comes to worse, you might be the one going postal on her, and we can't have that now can we?

Why ignore it? Why not just ask her to be quieter so you can work? Do you mean she sits by herself and just laughs with no apparent reason, on a frequent basis? If other people are hanging out and talking with her, making her laugh, you may need to address that with her supervisor since it's disruptive. If she's just sitting by herself and laughing, well, if you're comfortable with direct confrontation, I don't see a problem with just asking her to be quieter so you can work. Then go to her boss, if that doesn't help.

I just don't see a reason to ignore it. The problem won't go away unless you address it.

Talk to the boss , let them know that her noise is making you less productive at work because you can not concentrate. Ask if there is something that can be done. She shouldn't be giggling and laughing all the time she should be working!

Tell your supervisor that you fear her noise is having a detrimental effect on your productivity. It will be attended to post-haste.

They may just move her or you to another place on the floor, but at least this will solve the problem. Too bad they will probably not correct the underlying behavior.

Good luck!

Sounds like a nervous reaction on her part or perhaps she is thinking of funny things? or on meds?

Pleasantly ask her to tone it down. If that doesn't work, could you chat with her supervisor?
