Ok, im pretty worried cos my sister wrote all over the wall (in her own code/language). now most of her room is covered in these curly symbols she likes. none of us can read it (though we have tried to) which she is perfectly aware of

should we be worried? they vary from what appear to be short phrases to several sentences. she can read them back easily though.
is it a symptom?

thanks

I think it could be an early sign of schipsofrenia. My grand son kept doing the same thing. He would write unreadable codes of whirls and something like a foreign language etc. and then read it back to you like reading from a book. he would write on paper not walls. He also became withdrawn as if he was a million miles away. I thing you should tell your doctor about her.

Personally some well-intentioned people may prejudge your sister as having a mental disorder. You failed to mention the age of your sister. Have you asked your sister, the motive of the writing? Has she shown other actions that would be of questionable behavior? Does she write on other walls other than her own? How is her behavior in general? Sometimes persons do such things to grab attention from others. I can honestly appreciate your concern for your sister. If she continues to exhibit questionable behaviors it would definitely be a good idea to have her evaluated. This will help you and your parents, as well as your sister. Be sure that the professional you plan to see is one that works with people of your sister's age and has good creditials. I believe that you have some truly understandable concerns, but talk with your sister and get a feel of what is going on,thendecide whether she needs professional help or not. One of the most important things is the love and support that you and your family members have for each other. I wish you all the best and remember that you also need to take care of yourself.

if your sister is really young it might just be her imagination.
You say that she can read these sentences back to herself?
if she is able to read this, ask her sometime where she learned this, and why she is writing it on her walls.
She may also be autistic. Children who are Autistic don't speak much, and have their own little way of communicating, and are actually very smart as well, so maybe she picked this language she is writing up off of TV, or the internet or something, Try to talk to her more about, and ask lots of questions to try and get some answers out of her to see where this is coming from.

OK if she's 17 and drawing on the wall that's something that isn't exactly normal but could be. Anyways if she wont tell u her problem and you cant read what she doing. then try to see if she's having any problems like doing drugs or something. Ask her friends if they've noticed something about her that isn't normal or if she's OK. May even ask the teachers or boyfriend if somethings up. You can also get her some poster board since she seems to like top draw then c if she'll draw how she feels preferably with out the squiggles or 2 where you can understand what she's trying to say. That's all I got

Contact a mental health specialist right away. She may have a mental disorder, which by the way many can now be treated.

See the film, A Beautiful Mind with Russel Crowe. It show one man's experience with such a problem.

Don't let this go any longer. If it turns out she is doing this just for attention, that is actually a problem too. Counseling, perhaps medication in the worst case scenario, is what she may need.

Good luck and god bless.

Does she have other symptoms of being disturbed? If she is "normal" in other ways this may just be a phase. That would depend on how old she is.

So there are two possibilities. 1. She is goofing on everyone and trying to make herself seem mysterious and mystic by using a secret language. 2. She is extremely disturbed and this is the beginning of it.

Your parents need to step in and do something about getting her in to see someone to evaluate her.

My daughter is extremely interested in "Autism" and I recently watched a special on CNN about autism and the different stages and obsessive behavior they have or develop. The one person was a normal child growing up and very smart. When she was in her teens she began to withdraw and even stopped talking all together. Today she communicates through a keyboard that speaks for her as she types (sometimes 150 words a minute!). I believe they said in females it tends to develop later in life. Don't quote me but try looking on CNN website it was Dr. Sanjay Gupta (not sure of spelling his name but he does have several specials on CNN). I wish you all best of luck. Support her as much as you can but don't forget you may also need some support too. Stay strong!

Please discuss with her. My best guess is that she would like to have somebody to listen her. She really has some kind of severe problem.

Have you asked her to write these sentences to you on paper? Walls are an extremely strong media to express yourself - when written on paper, it is a more intime session.

If this advice does not help (= she would not like to discuss about those writings), please contact a doctor. If your sister cannot express herself to you (as her closest friend, her sister), you have to prevent her to go too deeply in her own world with a professional support.

But remember! Do not worry too much. She can have help in some way.

huh, I'd be curious to know if she's just being artistic, or if she's responding to voices which tell her to write this stuff on the wall that only she can understand. Does she say anything else thats strange or paranoid? If she does, might be good to have her seen by a pshyciatrist.
