Ouch.
It is possible that you could retrieve some of the pictures. But you will probably have to spend upwards of $150.
I can tell you right now that your chances will be better if you stop using the computer immediately.
When you format and reinstall, it basically just overwrites the first few bits of data for those files. There are software programs that can recover the data, but the more you use the computer the more the data will be compromised.
I can not say this enough, if you want to keep data files that are precious to you, ALWAYS back them up to multiple mediums. CD's, DVD's, External drives, flash drives... something that will allow you to recover them if something happens. Which it inevitabley will.

If, in one of the steps of your recovery, you formatted the hard drive, it's going to be a bit more than difficult.
There are commercial pieces of software you can buy that will allow to to find deleted files on your computer...do a search on the Internet for one of these.
If there is major worth to these pictures, and you have the money, there are companies you can send your hard drive off to that can do data recovery. This is a very expensive process, and can get upwards of $2000-$3000 dollars, depending on the circumstances. My advice, take it to a local repair shop, or a Geeksquad department at a bestbuy if you're local to one, and just ask them what they think they can do. They might have some tricks up their sleeves...

You can recover lost pics from computer with photo recovery software. This is because that files you deleted from computer are not erased permanently. They are just inaccessible or invisible. The space your deleted files located on is marked as free space that can be occupied or taken by new data. Therefore, you can recover your deleted files with data recovery software. Asoftech data recovery is such kind of software. It can recover data after deeply scanning your hard drive to look for lost data you accidentally deleted.
By the way,you can download it and scan your hard drive for free to preview whether your deleted files can be recovered. It will show you the file name, type, date and size of your files and thumbnails for your pictures that it found on your drive.

I am not certain but you hear about people who have formatted their hard drive and data can still be recovered long after its been wiped. I am no expert but there are loads of data recovery web sites that may be able to help, though its going to cost you maybe upwards from £100. Best of luck just type 'hard disk recovery' in your browser and take your pick.
Best of luck
