William Henry Fox Talbot took the very first photograph at Lacock Abbey, Wiltshire, England in 1830. You should be able to find links to him on the net or books on him in the library.

Also Daguerre, Eastman, who founded the Kodak company, Röntgen, who discovered X-rays, to name but a few.

Also look up colour photography, which began early in the last century and cine photography, which began in the 1890s. The very first cine film was shown in France in 1895 - a train coming towards the camera. People were terrified and jumped out of their seats. First colour film to be released was Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn, 1938.

First war to be photographed was the Crimean War and photographic aerial reconnaisance was first used in the First World War.

You could also include television which is a form of photography, beginning with John Logie Baird in the 1920s. The BBC first broadcast TV in 1936.

A good source of info: the Royal Photographic Society www.rps.org

Also try the BBC history section & the Science Museum, London

You can begin at the link below, a good reference.
Just google "history of photography" and you'll find hundreds of others.

Do searches against the names of Daguerre ( a French man) and Fox-Talbot (English) and that should give you a start.
