Just curious as to how many people on this thing believe in personal salvation of Jesus Christ (who died on the cross for your sins) and how many people believe it's more about a relationship with God rather than religion.

Feel free to expand on this as much as possible. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks, believes and maybe even KNOWS.

I was very impressed by those of who responded. I'm not quite sure how many people really care to know what I believe, but I'm just going to say it anyway.

Long story short, I was saved at a young age, I ended up falling into a deep sin of self mutilation, hatred and suicidal thinking. I was abused by my dad and my whole family life seemed to be falling apart. And I didn't really understand how to have a relationship with my creator. Anyway, my mom wanted me to go to biblical counseling and in looking in the Bible for direction and help from God, my life did a 180. It was crazy because it was the first time in my life I really, REALLY saw God. So ever since the 8th grade, I've been falling more and more in love with God and He has taught me so many different things. Throughout all of those years, I kept a journal and after reading it again I must say that I never way to live my life without Christ being my focus because it's not as... awesome. To talk more in depth, e-mail me! Please.

Amen to your question. We to often lack being spiritual because we compare ourselves to one another. That is the formula for religion. It's like jumping from an airplane and wanting someone else's parachute when you already have one that God has supplied you with. Our walk with God needs to be even more than a ordinary relationship. To start our relationship we except Jesus. To have a intimate relationship we need the Holy Ghost. This will allow you to make that much needed Jump.

I believe in salvation thru the Blood of Jesus, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that in confessing my sins and repenting to Him alone (no man between us) that I have accepted His Gift of Grace and am born again and saved. Building a personal relationship with Him keeps me on the path that is straight and narrow.... religion to me is a man made set of rules, often contradictory to what the Bible says... The most awesome experience was when I was baptized in the Holy Spirit... since then my life has changed dramatically... not so much in my everyday surroundings, but who I am in Christ is so different than who I was before Christ rescued me from me!

God bless!

I want all who read this to know that I know Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, the Son of God. I know because I have prayed to know and I have felt His forgiveness and healing, and His love for me personally. As to the question, His sacrifice for our salvation has EVERYTHING TO DO with our relationship with God. His sacrifice for us was not just dying on the cross, (many before and after Him were crucified in that manner) it was rising again on the third day. It was how in the Garden of Gethsemane He took upon Him not only our sins but one on one for each of us, our pains, sorrows, and grief. There could be nothing more personal than His sacfrice for our salvation. In your question you pit "religion" against "spirituality", salvation through Jesus Christ against a personal relationship with God, but I think if you thought about it you'd realize that these things are not opposing but in fact inseparably the same thing. Real religion is spiritual, and Jesus Christ is personally, as much as if you were the only being He ever created, your Savior.

Everyone will have an answer to this question, but if you really want to know, you're asking the wrong people. Pray for yourself, really search it out and ask God.

I believe and I am thankful that God loved his creation so much that he sent Jesus to die on the cross to save us.

It is about an on-going relationship with God rather than religion. The only people that ever gave Jesus problems was the religious.

If we were to truly live by the commandments that Jesus gave ...love God with all our heart, soul, mind, & strength and love our neighbor as our selves, then Christianity would not have such a bad reputation.

I don't necessarily believe in that story, no. There is no compelling reason to believe that there is a Heaven and a Hell of any sort (except for some metaphysical discussion of Hell on Earth). Lots of religions have their notion of the afterlife.

However, it's worth pointing out that a loving god would never allow his creation to go to Hell. If God loves everyone, as some people claim, then everyone is assured salvation, for no one could inflict such torment on someone he loves.

Naturally, if God is willing to allow people to go to Hell, then he is not a loving god and holds human life in contempt. Someone with so little respect for life probably has little respect for the truth, so his promise that his followers will be saved is a suspicious promise. Such a being cannot be trusted.

So, I don't believe that Jesus is the way to Heaven. Either we're guaranteed to go into Heaven or no one has that guarantee. If the latter, then it's not worth worrying about.

Edit: Light Bringer says that the Bible claims that we are destined for Hell. I do not dispute that the Bible does say that. I will point out that the Bible is simply a human book written by humans. Anyone who claims that God allows people to go to Hell is making the claim that God is not loving. If someone makes the claim that God allows people to go to Hell and is loving, then that person is either confused or a liar. The Bible was written a long time ago by men who haven't even discovered pi yet. Taking their advice is akin to taking surgical advice from a Civil War medic.

Yes, I believe in a personal salvation via the Messiah, Yeshua. As was prophesied in scripture that you were to bring "your lamb" for the covering of sin, so Christ became my Lamb for the remission of sin.

I became one of those born-again Jesus Freaks of the 1970s. This was the Calvary Chapel movement that started in Costa Mesa, California USA. I was by myself when I asked Christ into my heart, because I figured if He IS God, He can meet me where I am at and not at a church. And He did, in a BIG way. Been walkin' and talkin' to Him for--oy, 34 years now.

I believe, but I would like to say one thing to the answer above(Rev Kev) - Your thought process is wrong, it says in the Bible (Romans 6:23) for the wages of sin is death, so if we sin one time, we are destined for Hell. But but Jesus dying for our sins on the cross, He granted us salvation and forgiveness of sin forever. We send ourselves to hell, God is a just God, and we get what we deserve. Your thought process is dangerous because you are trying to justify disobedience, and that is wrong. Just know that God is just, and if you sin, and you don't have Jesus Christ in your heart, then you are going to answer to God, in which you will have no defense.

He who has ears, let them hear.

First off, I am not a religious person. This is because the institute of religion, is more of a company than it is a church. The leaders of the church preach acceptance, preach the rules of the Lord, but in actuality, they are making a LOT of money off the whole charade. This is not right. One should not need a church or religious group to feel spiritual. One should not feel the need to dump their life savings on a God that may or may not exist to feel complacency in their heart. How about you take all that money, put it into your children's education, the Red Cross, or a charitable organization. The Lord does not need your money, you can have a relationship with him despite the thickness or fluidity of your wallet.

My grandfather just passed away, and he gave all his money to one of those evangelical preachers on television. None to his family. None to anyone but this man who claims to preach God's word.

If there is a God, he would not want that. He would not want any of this hypocricy that exists in his so-called name. It's BS.

John 14:6 (Jesus speaking) I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except by me.

A relationship with God starts with our faith in Jesus Christ. So it is about a relationship not religion but it takes faith to have the relationship. For without faith it is impossible to please God.

It's a religion whether you attempt to define it as something else or not. There's no need to go redefining words in the english language just so you can prevent your myths from being parallel with all the other ones that are equally as valid.
