I hear there is lots of controversy about the new school she built in So. Africa. Mostly about how much money it cost to build it (lavish)and the cost to keep the doors open.
And she pledges FREE college to any US or non-US University of there choice upon completion.
Many feel she should have invested in USA since there is where her money was made by her show, books, film company, magazine and most of her endevours.
Was this her Destiny as she states?
Was this a good idea? How do you feel about it?

Although I think it was her Destiny, I feel she should build a Beautiful School here to for all the disadvantaged youth in the US.

But she has donated a great deal of money to many different projects in the U. S. already and continues to do so, including money for education.

Maybe she feels that the place in which she built the school had a desperate need for one. After all in the state there is *some* school for most student, even if they aren't adequate whereas there the school was just this side of non-existent.

She may eventually build a school here, but then which students would get in and which students would be denied? Are the schools they'd be forced to attend adequate? The problems facing education in America are far more complex than the building of one beautiful school can solve. And she is involved in activism for education in America.

I'm no Oprah-addict at all, but come on how much of the world is she really supposed to take care of? I'm just glad she's doing something worthwhile, and I hope other celebrity types are doing the same things, whether we know about them or not.

sure, Oprah opened an academy for females in Henly-on-Klip, South Africa that's approximately 40 miles outdoors of Johannesburg. the college is desperate on 22 acres, has yoga studios, 28 homes, a splendor salon, theaters, tribal artwork, and so on. Oprah has stated that it replace into the desirable 2d of her existence to open this college for females. females entering the college are 12 and 13 years previous. to those that say that Oprah could open a school in usa, I say this. once you replace right into a multimillionaire you are able to donate funds and fund courses whether you so %. She is being charitable and forward questioning by skill of doing this for those underprivelaged childrens. How can every person locate fault in doing good works?

The disadvantaged in the US have the opportunity to get a public education and earn a scholarship. Hard work will pay off. The disadvantaged in South Africa don't have that same opportunity. I respect that she's trying to give them a chance they wouldn't otherwise have.

Well I think since SHE made the money she should should do what she wants... I think if she wants to she should help people in the US, but just because you dont live here doesnt make you below human. Everyone in poverty needs help and atleast shes doing something good with it besides hoarding it. I think its sad people want the rich to donate to charity yet when they do its never enough nor is it the right charity....

Given Oprah's penchant for uncritically supporting frauds and adopting unexamined, unscientific viewpoints, I'm not sure she needs to be in the education business.

Who cares about Oprah and what she does? She has no talent! Why do women put her on a pedestal and watch her show? Seriously, is it just me who thinks she has no talent? I have no idea how that woman made any money!!

Publicity
had there been only a low key announcement I would call it noble.
she is using her money to defer the sad facts of her lifestyle and political smearing.

i dont think she should offer then any free college in the US. however i think it was nice on her part, she probably did it mostly for publicity but whatever.

(your right, we do have many who need an education and people are starving and homeless here too)
