what will happen if i am getting double the daily value of calcium i need. is this what causes kidney stones.

The actual cause of kidney stones has been debated for years. Some physicians maintain that too much calcium is a cause, because the stones contain calcium. However, kidney stones can be present even in someone who is considered calcium deficient, and calcium has never been shown to be a direct cause.

The Upper Limit (UL) is the highest level of daily intake of calcium that is likely to pose no risks of adverse health effects to almost all individuals. The UL for children and adults ages 1 year and older (including pregnant and lactating women) is 2500 mg/day.

Having too much calcium in your system can result in the malabsorption of other vitamins/minerals, and impaired kidney function. So, take what you need.

Teens need about 1,200 mg of calcium a day. Young men and women need about 1,000 mg a day. Older men and women need a bit more - about 1,500 mg a day. To give you an idea of how much calcium that is, a glass of milk contains about 300 mgs of calcium.

It can over time, if you continue to overdo it. Most calcium is stored in the bones for future days when you don't/aren't consuming enough. It is when you consistently don't consume enough that your body will continue to pull from your bones and you end up with osteoporosis. Keep in mind that your body can only absorb 300-500mg at a time, any excess is flushed out at that time. So space out your consumption to 2-3 times per day for a total of 1000mg or more.

Maybe cut down just a little on the calcium intake...drink more water.
