Yeah, paper mache IS good!
Glue things like cardboard, styrofoam, wadded newspaper and crumpled tin foil on a base (Plywood? Cardboard?) and then cover with paper mache for an uneven, rocky looking surface. After painting, you can also use fake plants and/or moss to decorate it. Good luck!
P.S. The paper mache I'm talking about is the newspaper strips dipped in the glue, flour and water mixture, (or other recipe) NOT the pulpy stuff! :)

brown spray-painted styrofoam, super glue, and fake plants! buy those big honkin' cubes of styrofoam and glue them together and cut some of them at angles to make a really cool mountain side. i think it would be really cool to buy one of those seven dwarves pinatas that you see at wal-mart.
