If you aint anymore familiar with PCs than that, you BETTER be worried! A reformat and reinstall is no easy job! You will lose any programs you dont have cds for, you will lose drivers unless you have a drver installation disk, and in your case, you will probably end up having a professional finish the job you started! A reformat is a last resort! You would be better off stating your problems!

Reinstalling the os does not erase the drive completely unless you do a complete format..... If you chose quick format, it will leave the majority of info on your drive, it wont show, but with a couple free programs any one can get that unformated info from your drive if its sold, thrown away, you get the point.
If you know who makes you drive you can go to their web site, they almost all provide a program to erase the info on their drives, and its free. You just need a floppy drive.
Say you have Western Digital hard drive, you could go to the link below... they use a program called Data Lifeguard Tools

Ultimate Book CD has a bunch of create utilities on it.
FYI. FDisk and reinstalling Windows will still leave data behind that can be recovered using data recovery tools. If you want to be sure data is erased then every sector on the hard drive needs to be overwritten with "junk data".

just download the boot disk from http://spock.uccs.edu/pub/bootdisks/bootme.exe and make sure you have a free floppy disk so that when you restart the computer you can use it to type FDISK and when you get inside delete all partitions and create a new then most likely everything will be wiped and erased! And if you like to know how to install your computer to prevent future problems just go to http://computersguide.blogspot.com/2007/01/install-computers.html
OK have fun

there are two programs made specifically for this called FDISK and DELPART both of which run in MSDOS and if your really handy with the command prompt you can type in the command diskpart and go from there. If you cannot find any of these then go to the Help and Support Center in Windows and search delete partition.
