I eat regular foods as part of a well-balanced diet... no prepackaged diet bars or meals, and the occasional ice cream sandwich. My portions are just different, and I eat a lot more fiber, fruit, and vegetables than the average person. On a daily basis, I'm eating whole grains, vegetables, fruit, low-fat dairy and lean meat - all of which is regular food.

In answer to your questions: Yes, Yes and Yes...
Your body is a furnace...if you burn more than you put in, you lose weight...if you don't burn it all, then you gain weight.
What you eat affects how your body performs mentally and physically--you need vitamins, minerals, water, proteins, carbs and fats to keep it running smooth.
How much you eat (and when) depends on how fast your body burns things = metabolism. I say "when" because you may have a high metabolism at some times and not at others...keep the fire burning constant by eating smaller, frequent meals. Your hunger is your body's way of telling you "Hey, feed me" but you don't have to put a whole tree on the fire...just a couple of logs will do...
Eating "regular" food is really hard to quantify...Food = a source of nutrition...that cuts out about 90% of the crap that the big chain restaurants are trying to feed us and about the same in the regular grocery stores...common sense tells you eating at McDonalds or Taco Bell may not be the best idea.
Re-learn how to make your meals...modest portions of meat, veggies/fruits, grains and dairy prepared about any way you want--but don't follow the food pyramid, follow how well YOUR body burns the different foods you eat. I personally think that the blood type diet works...it's real food, but in different proportions.
There was a Yahoo Health article not too long ago that says exercise is just as effective as dieting...so if you do a little of both, you'll be better off all around.

I lost 52 inches over my body in 3 months by eating regular food. All I did was eat in moderation and make sure I had plenty of veggies and fruits (still in moderation). Plus I ran for 15 minutes each night. That's it--I just ran for 15 minutes.
Dieting is so extreme that most people forget that losing weight is a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

It's a combination of what you eat, and how much you eat.
What you eat = good nutrition, strong body.
How much you eat = portion control, weight loss.
And yes, it is very possible to lose weight by eating "regular" food, if by regular food you mean lean protein, whole grains, fruits & vegetables.
If by regular food you mean a quart of ice cream, an entire pizza, a dozen chicken wings, 6 Krispy Kremes and 2 liters of soda every day -- NO!

I would have to say it's more "how much" you're eating. I'm sure "what" has a lot to do with it, too.....but I've recently had some extensive dental work done, leaving me temporarily (for the last 4 months) eating what I term "mush foods". I usually stop eating, not because I'm full, but because I'm tired of "mushing". I can't bite into big juicy cheeseburgers like I'd like, so I've consoled myself on occasion with a whole pint of Benn & Jerry's for dinner. I didn't think I had lost anything, since I usually avoid The Scale, but today I'm wearing a pair of previously un-zippable jeans, and they zipped up just fine.

Yes! Try Weight Watchers. You can eat whatever you want (within reason) but it's about portion control. I'm on Weight Watchers now and wouldn't do it any other way. It's about changing your eating habits for life, not just a quick fix.
Also, keep the following tips in mind:
-drink at LEAST 48oz of water each day
-exercise at least 3 times a week (cardio and strength training)
-eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies
-aim for 2-3 servings of dairy
-choose whole grains whenever possible.
But if you do all these things and you still want, say, a piece of chocolate cake, you're totally within your rights to indulge. Check it out!

absolutely! moderation is the key...go have mcdonalds if you want it, but keep in mind that ideally the portion for an adult is a happy meal, not a double quarter pounder super sized meal lol. of course, what you eat is important too, like eating celery...it takes more calories to eat celery than the celery itself contains. lower fat content, calories etc. are obviously going to benefit you if you are trying to lose weight...but theres no need to make yourself miserable and more than likely failing your diet because you deprive yourself of what you want to eat. i think thats why people are yoyo dieters. you eat a bunch of "healthy" things, and you begin to miss your "bad" or "junk" foods. i know i personally dont have the willpower to never eat fast food, so why give myself the guilt trip over it? i eat there when i want, i just eat less of what i love...and ive lost 50+ pounds in the last year. good luck!

I lost weight slowly but surely by eating all the same things as I used to. I just didn't eat too much of it, nor did I snack in between meals.
