It is more like the Jewish immigrant arriving in America, in the early XX century.
He comes from a devastated world (Krypton/Europe)
He had to change his name in order to fit in America's society (Kal-El-Clark Kent as in Jeremiah/Jerry)
He quickly adopted the US as his new homeland and country (ergo, the colors of his suit).
He's highly sensitive to things from his old homeland (Kryptonite/Orthodox Jewry stuff)
However, he still enshrines, albeit secretly, his origins (The North Pole fortress/home shrines)
After all, he was created by Jews: Shuster and Siegel.

No. But it is loosely based on the Messiah (which technically I believe is Jesus).
The comic is Jewish based & Superman was a type of what the Messiah would be like.

No. Superman can't change water into wine. Jesus knows he was doing good work; God's work. We, and he, Superman that is, do not know yet if his good intentions will end in a better world or the end of the world, as seen in a recent story line, also in various older story lines ex. Kingdom Come.

I don't know if it is or not, but sure seems like it's pretty coincidental if not.
Only son sent to Earth to eventually "save" man. Has superhuman powers. Can hear all (almost omniscient).
Thing is, unless someone knows some early comic book history, hard to know really the truth there.

Superman is based on a messiah/savior figure, not necessarily Jesus.

No. His creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were both Jewish. Superman is more or less based on Philip Wylie's "Gladiator".

Schuster and Speigel, who created Superman, were Jewish. So it is unlikely that they based him on Jesus.

I don't think so, but the biblical overtones in last year's 'Superman Returns' were more than subtle.

I doubt he started out that way, but since his death and resurrection in the early nineties, the resemblance is uncanny--he even got crucified on the pilot episode of "Smallville"
