I think you just have to get out there, meet new people. A lot of the people I know met their spouse when they were not even looking. But if you are interested in dating, you can ask some of your friends to set you up on a blind date. I would caution dating any of their relatives--sometimes that can get a little awkward. Or you could take some classes at the local community center/park district. Many areas offer cooking or martial arts classes. Do not listen to some of these morons who say you are sad or too old. You are the right age to think about settling down.

I'm not sure how you feel about dating sites like match.com eharmony.com or true.com but for someone your age who doesn't enjoy going out to bars and clubs that might be the way to go. At least with online dating you know that your both looking for the same thing, and your not walking up to some random person who could potentially be committed or married
When you have reached the age you are at your options become slim. You can only meet people at work, at bars or just out of luck.
Give an online dating site a try, you might just get lucky.

My husband was 39 when we met, and I was 46 ... and we became 'best friends' because we both lived in the same apartment building and both 'loved to talk' about things on a much 'higher level' than anyone else in our building. If you don't have any 'female friends' then that's where you should 'start' ... join some 'interesting groups' that do or discuss things that you really enjoy, and just make friends with PEOPLE, both male and female ... and I'm betting that if your 'best friend' turns out to be 'female' then she's the 'one true love of your life' ...

Enrol in a college course or evening class or take up a sport or hobby - you'll meet someone with the same interests as you. Or maybe you'll meet someone who can introduce you to Mrs Right.

Good luck finding the right lady.

Go places that interest you. If you meet her there then the two of you will already have things in common. Try going to the movies alone. I have done this many times and you get to meet other people who are there alone as well.

I believe you should find your wife in odd places you enjoy, because sure enough if you meet someone there they probably enjoy the same things you do. You might even be a match made in heaven!!
