I'll elaborate a little on what the other questions said: to be canonized, or "sainted" you have to be recognized be the Roman Catholic Church as a person of great integrity and piousness. Many people have been sainted in the past, it is a task that is taken up by a council of archbishops and the pope himself. They weight the deeds and help that the person did for humanity and for the furthermeant of the Gospel, then vote on it. In many instances, this doesn't happen until 10 to 30 years after the person is deceased.

The 'cannonisation' of people is a man made invention, it clearly states in the Bible that anyone who is a true follower of Jesus Christ is a saint, and they were alive at the time!!
