My 98 corolla seatbelt light is keep blinking even though the seatbelts are buckled. Do I have to take it to the dealer? Will they charge me alot of money for this? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Most likely problem. There is a switch in the buckle. there are two wires that go out of the buckle and under the seat. If this wire is damaged or cut the car thinks the buckle is not buckled. trace this wire and check it out. patch it - or splice it if necessary. If wire is ok - ck switch in buckle to see if it is working. If you want the light to stop blinking cut/strip/twist the 2 wires together and tape them up. as long as you use your seat belt - you don't need the light right?

There is probably a sensor in the seatbelt that lets it know that it has been buckled.

If the sensor has failed, then they will probably have to replace it, otherwise they might have to troubleshoot the wiring, or possibly determine if the computer has a problem.

It should be fairly cheap, but 'dealer' and 'cheap' don't usually go into the same sentence. Maybe check with some local mechanics- get them to give you a quote, and if you know someone who knows more about cars, maybe take them along to keep you from getting screwed around.

I have the same car, those lights are sooo annoying! Especially when you just jump in the car real quick and you have to put on your belt or that damn light just ahhh! But if it's not working, the sensor is probably out in the seat (thats how it knows to go off). You probably should jus take it to the dealership, but its not really that big of a deal. I would just deal with it!

My dad's airbag light does this, it's not a problem, ignore it.
