Actually in Hebrew it would be Yahshua and Greek Yeshua.... Jesus is a Modern trans. There was no letter J in ANY language during "Jesus'" time. And to be called a CHristian, one has to follow Christ...... Jesus was Christ... he didn't follow himself. He was born to a Jewish family, went to the synagogue as all Jews back then did and quoted from a Jewish religious book - the Old Testament (mainly the Torah itself/the 1st 5 books of the Bible). Christ is an English translation of the Greek and Latin Christos... which basically means Annointed One... Christos was the modern usage during Jesus' time. The Hebrew word for this is Meshiah (Messiah) which means the exact same thing.

He was born a Jew, raised a Jew and died the "King of Jews" as the New Test shows was written and placed above his head when he was crucified.

1. What? Are you kidding? He was Jewish & was from the line of...King David (the king of Israel).
2. Christian means "little Christ" and was not his last name but was a name given to mock his followers. In fact, they were first called "Christians" in Antioch, Greece.
3. "Jewish" can refer to a persons nationality, religion, or both.
4. Jesus did not start a different religion, he is the Jewish messiah-which by the way, many jews (including my pastor) follow.

Hope this helps shed some light on the subject.

Jesus had to be a Jew because he grew up in a Jewish society. Though he may have been the start of Christianity, he was referred as the King of Jews because he was to free the Jews from the Romans.

Uh yeah right. If Jesus existed, he was a Jew. He did not go through life as Jesus Christ, that's a latter shortening of the term Jesus, the Christ.

It's sad when atheists know more about your religion than you do.

Jesus was born a Jew so that makes him a Jew not a Christian.
It was people who came after him who called themselves Christians.

Your neighbor is right. Christianity was born out of his death. Hence being named after him. Much like Lutheran was born off of Martin Luther's name. Jesus was Jewish.

Are you confused or what?

Joshua (Jesus) was born Jewish and even had a Bar Mitzvah (or so the story goes).

The Last Supper was a Passover Seder.

Duh! Christ is a Greek word for Annointed One.
It was not a last name. Those who were called by a first and last name, the last name was BarJonah, for son of John, or BarNabus, for son of Nabus, the encourager.

We are not called to be mental giants of the faith. We are called to be humble servants of Jesus the Christ.
